Pros

Great location, services provided by departments are excellent, great client service

Cons

Low morale, few salary increases, no incentives to do better - the rewards system looks good but is rarely ever awarded.

Pros

The people at Mayer Brown are fantastic. Both in London and Chicago, the people are friendly and want to get a good job done.

Cons

There is a huge split between the treatment of fee-earning and support staff. Support staff are not seen as being drivers of the business with the skills and expertise to drive ommercial excellence. Rather they are seen (and consequently see themselves) as transational functions, that add little value to the business.

Very good people and culture, slow career progress

Pros

Having left Mayer Brown, I now realise how good people there were - really responsive and genuinely keen to do a good job. The culture is very cooperative and collegiate and there is no strict hierarchy. Low stress environment and good work life balance compared to other City law firms.

Cons

Career progress for non-lawyers is quite slow and could be demotivating. No clear career track is in place.
