I worked at MediaCom UK full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - good benefits, really fun atmosphere, very relaxed and social, feels a bit like being at university at times, even the managers of teams are very social

    Cons

I was a Media Exec for nearly two years, about to complete my scheme and looking forward to my permanent role when the pandemic hit, and a long with a few others was axed from the company and given two weeks to collect my stuff (during the first lockdown...) and to leave essentially. - Not ONE person from the company emailed or messaged me to see how I was doing with the news, was absolutely disgusted and dissappointed with this treatment as I had really been an advocate for Mediacom till I realised they did not care about me or my mental health AT ALL - had to pull myself out of a very depressed and dark state afterwards - Not one person from my team asked how I was or cared that I had to leave - I was also added into a call about promotions for the lucky few who had not been axed and were lucky enough to be on bigger clients such as Tesco which were booming in the pandemic, this obviously hurt even more and just confirmed the lack of care and attention to detail from the HR team at Mediacom who didn't even bother to check who they had invited? - BEWARE OF THE EXEC SCHEME - this scheme is NOT what they say it is, you have to be very lucky to be put in a team where you actually might learn something about media, many like me are very unlucky and end up in teams where all you do is admin based work ALL DAY and have to go to other teams to try and actually learn something about media, you are moved through the company every 6 months to teams that probably don't want you or need you and spend many days staring at a screen with nothing to do

I worked at MediaCom UK full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Big name in Media for the CV. Good place to learn how an agency works for a couple of years then leave Clients are all household names

    Cons

Very high churn. People usually last around 1-2 years from joining as an exec and then collectively are looking for a place to leave to. Work is mainly admin tasks that will be phased out in the future and done by AI. TV buying has been done the same for many years and is in desperate need of a refresh. As the world progresses, it remains manual. Large amounts of excel work and finance issues which arise due to human error and take up a huge amount of people times. Since moving on, these problems don't exist in other companies. Pressure trickles down from the top and creates a toxic culture. Your manager puts pressure on you, because they are under pressure and so on. It’s like you and your team are spinning plates, one falls down and people rush to clear it up while the others continue. And then it continues, but the next accident is just around the corner. This means there is never a pause for good work but when things are going well, it just means nothing is going wrong. Management is trying to change as so many people have left over the past couple of years, bringing in new rewards for work. Employees need to be trusted to deliver more work. There is a level of micromanagement which people do not like. Company is fairly easy to progress in if you stay therefor long enough. Just an issue of time. I have honestly had colleagues looking to leave though as the responsibility vs pay increase of a promotion is completely disparate. Can just leave and get a bigger pay increase from going to another company. MediaCom pay’s seems very poor despite continually being the market leader in other areas. Pay doesn't follow

"Management claim to put "people first", but only care about their bottom line."

I have been working at MediaCom UK full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I liked MediaCom for the first couple of years. There are some good clients and most people are really nice, I never saw any bullying or anything like that. Training for planners is good.

    Cons

MediaCom's big claim is that they put "people first". It's even in our email signatures. They make a big song and dance about how much they care about staff's mental health. However as soon as Covid hit they made almost 100 people redundant immediately. This was before any other agency in London. And they didn't even do furlough, just BAM a ton of loyal and high performing people suddenly just axed. These included people who are vulnerable, like older people (one of whom had worked for them for 30+ years) and people with lung conditions, people who lived alone and had been self isolating without any support, suddenly having to contend with redundancy in the middle of a pandemic. It's an absolute disgrace. Those of us who are left have had our eyes opened to how little they actually give a toss about their people. Staff are just a commodity and an expense like any other that will be culled at the first sign of trouble, Many of those of us left will be out of the door as soon as the jobs market opens up again. People don't come first at MediaCom, shareholders do.
