A weird place

Pros

Good office location, nice facilities

Cons

A bizarre company with an odd culture that doesn't trust is staff or anyone to do the job. Approval routes for even the lowest form of action includes a minimum of 6 people. They have around 100 committes (for only 2,000 staff) so no one can make a decision or is empowered to do so. For any kind of IT request there is a 10 day turn around time, god forbid they make you go to a committee and write a business case - and i'm talking very simple requests. Overall a very bizarre place to work with an odd culture that is stuck in the past. For example its perfectly reasonable to travel via first class (on the members dime) and they look down on dress-down Fridays in case staff get reckless!?!

Rubbish place to work!

Pros

Made me appreciate my family and home life to be honest. Even looked back fondly on previous roles I left.

Cons

No support. No leadership. Too many staff set in their ways especially the leadership team and directors. MLA's, DLA's and Commercial management team are the most useless bunch of people I have ever come across. Don't have a clue what a team looks like. No chance of progress unless you completely and utterly make your face fit. Although you need a few long term employees to leave.... which they will never do with their golden pensions and inflated salaries.

Pros

Secure unless you fall foul of the odd politics and down 'the MPS trapdoor' which one or two have. You get a salary, maybe fine for some if you want to stay in the same old job for the rest of your life. 5 weeks annual leave + some med bens. There was a final salary pension scheme which has now been dispensed with.

Cons

Two tier system where doctors and lawyers are always superior, an 'Upstairs Downstairs' of indemnity (insurance in most people's language) where support staff are considered lesser humans and treated accordingly. There is absolutely no opportunity for career progression nor creativity or innovation. 'Fairness' being one of the core values is a massive double standard with some being allotted way more fairness than others. Workloads have increased considerably but salaries are less than the market rate. Morale not great and laughter/talking to ones colleagues not encouraged. The staff kitchen is poorly laid out and inadequate for 300+ people.
