I worked at Mitie full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There are no good reasons to work for Mitie.

    Cons

Pay is below average for job role. The only company I have ever worked for that only pay 'time and a third' for overtime. Standby/On-Call rate of £80 (pre-tax) is a joke for having to effectively give up a week of your life for Mitie. No benefits. You only get 20 days sick pay (on a rolling year) even if you are seriously or even terminally ill, therefore you come to work when unwell or before advised by the doctor. Inadequately equip the engineers. Have to 'beg and nag' for tools and test equipment. Blame culture, bullying management. 'Engineers always wrong, management and helpdesk always right'. Their IT systems are a joke. They are 20 years behind the times with their technology and equipping front line engineers with the IT equipment to undertake our job efficiently and professionally. Recently bought Interserve, they boast about now being the largest FM company in the UK. Management boast about the increase in revenue and the the millions they have made on our contract this year, but refuse to give us a payrise.

I worked at Mitie full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Mitie has worked had to improve it's image and structure over the last few years. If you have an office role and you're based in London you can potentially work in The Shard (which is likely given Phil Bentley's public views on working from home), it's a smart modern office with a good view. A lot of time and money has been spent on developing the technology offering and this has progressed a lot. The professional services function in the security division is doing some interesting things with threat intelligence and technology led projects.

    Cons

As much as the company try and gloss over it with marketing and expensive projects the bulk of their revenue come from high volume low margin work with the bulk of the now circa 70k employees working in low wage and "low skill" roles. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this but in my opinion this breeds a view that employees are disposable and replaceable. Even if you are coming into the company in a professional services context (such as consulting) you can expect this attitude to permeate into your role. There was minimal budget for training and any pay rises were hard fought.

I worked at Mitie full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Tram station is a few minutes away. Performance is valued at a 5% yearly salary increase, so basically you could sleep at work as it doesn't affect you so much. Job stress varies a lot depending on department. But low entry positions are quite easy after the first 3 months. Supervisor positions are not worth the extra 3-5k salary. You get double the volume of work and have to do unpaid overtime.

    Cons

Nepotism is flourishing in the offices of Stretford. Half of them are related or are friends before joining the team as the company had a policy to reward them with £500 if they recommended a friend. In 3 years I know at least 3 people who deserved to become supervisors and lost the position to friends of managers whom they ended training for that role. In 3 years they were very strict against working from home, now they have no choice.

I worked at Mitie full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There are good people there. But the camaraderie of being the conscientious ones that undo the harm done by the bad managers enabled by MITIE culture kept me there far too long.

    Cons

Bad managers are enabled by MITIE to bully and manipulate and do nothing but harm to MITIE and the people they target to bully.
