      A Typical Chinese Family Owned Business

      Pros

      It is a good place to work in if you want to settle down. Good location. A few good people.

      Cons

      It is impossible to go further if you are not one of the owners' family members or not related to the owners. Company cut cost on employees' welfare and benefits to save cost. Expect to be asked/forced to leave if you offended a family member or favorite employee of the owners.

      Culture shock and unfriendly atmosphere between colleagues from diff dept

      Pros

      Stable. No need to work very late. Good place for people with low career aspirations and those planning for retirement

      Cons

      Some dept managers are underqualified, insecure ,entitled, lazy or just plain weird and idiosyncratic. It is demoralising. The IT system is backward and exasperating. The need to work one Saturday per month for 3 hours is really baffling. No one could tell me why it was necessary though.

      Cons

      The company did not follow MOM guidelines to include Annual Wage Supplement (AWS) into the employees' letter of employment although the HR told verbally the staff that the company will pay them AWS. The business owners do not get along and terminate employees without proper reason and investigation. HR just follow the whim and fancy of business owners to keep their job, do not do proper investigations and just terminate staff without bothering to hear what the employees said. The business owners and HR staff also told lies in court to avoid paying AWS to employees. In the end, the Employment Claims Tribunal ordered the company to pay back AWS to employees.
