PepsiCo – Why Work With Us?

Every day millions of people in the UK enjoy our oats, snacks, juices and beverages. The 4,500 strong team behind these household names is spread across our 10 UK sites including our Quaker oats mill in Cupar and, our Walkers crisp factory in Leicester – the largest crisp factory in the world.

Our vision is to Be the Global Leader in Convenient Foods and Beverages by Winning with Purpose. Behind this vision lies a passion for sustainability and a commitment to doing business in the right way. We strongly believe that integrating purpose into our business strategy will be the key to our future success.

Our portfolio includes some of the nation’s best-loved snack brands like Walkers, the nation’s favourite crisps, made from 100% British potatoes and famous for their mouth-watering flavours. But that’s not all, we also create iconic snacks like Doritos, Wotsits, Monster Munch, and premium brand Pipers Crisps.

We’re famous for our beverages including Pepsi MAX, 7UP, Mountain Dew, Gatorade and Lipton Ice Tea. We’re committed to reducing sugar and focus our advertising on raising the profile of our low and no-sugar options like Pepsi MAX which is the fastest-growing cola brand in the UK.

We’re helping more and more people reach their five-a-day through our juice portfolio. Tropicana is the number one chilled fruit juice brand in the UK offering great tasting juices including Whole Fruit which has more fibre than a traditional juice or smoothie. Our portfolio also includes delicious British apple juice from Copella and great-tasting smoothies from Naked.

We provide delicious and nutritious breakfasts to suit busy, modern-day lifestyles through our porridge brands; Quaker and Scott’s. Across our two brands, we offer a range of diverse flavours and ways to prepare your oats. Whether it’s on a stove, in the microwave or in a handy on-the-go pack, we’ve got something to suit everyone’s lifestyle.

We want each and every PepsiCo employee to feel comfortable just simply being who they are and bring their full self to work. We celebrate what makes us all unique and know that to truly represent the communities around us we must reflect them in our workforce.

That’s why we’ve empowered our employees to champion diversity and set up grassroots groups to drive our diversity and inclusion agenda from the ground up, embedding it in our culture.

From our EQUAL team who work hard to drive conversations around LGBTQ+ issues and support local communities at Pride events to the BAME group who challenge our thinking and help us guard against unconscious bias and discrimination, we are happy to be supporting the people going above and beyond to drive positive change across all levels of the organisation.

We’re committed to achieving gender equality and increasing female representation in our workforce. We have set ourselves the target of having gender parity in all management roles by 2025.

Conversations around gender are driven by people from all levels of the business from our Leadership team who are striving to hit our 2025 target to our employee-owned group, Women at PepsiCo. The group aims to drive gender equality and empower colleagues by using real life tactics and tips.

We also have a number of recruiting and development initiatives in place including our female leadership programme, Strategies for Success, which focuses on helping female middle-managers reach their senior management potential.

Our work in this area has been recognised externally and we’ve been named a Times Top 50 Employer for Women for 14 consecutive years.

We're committed to building a workforce that represents people from all walks of life and help build a fairer society by giving equal opportunity to everyone.

We are passionate about developing our people at all levels of our business. We do this through regular training and career development tools designed to help them achieve their goals while contributing to the business. Our courses develop leaders at multiple levels of the organisation from first-time managers to senior executives.

We ensure that everyone across the business has regular check-ins with their managers about their career progression. We also have the PepsiCo University which offers online courses for all of our employees allowing them to up-skill at the touch of a button.

Our commitment in this area has led to us being recognised as a Top Employer eight years in a row.

It’s not just the skills of our current employees that we’re committed to developing, we’re also helping the next generation of workers develop the skills they need to create a bright future.

To help bridge the gap in STEM talent our network of over 100 STEM ambassadors deliver workshops to young people local to our UK sites and lead a number of initiatives from attending events and seminars to offering students industry placements.

In 2017 we embraced the Apprenticeship Levy as an opportunity to advance and standardise the training we offer front line employees by creating the Grow Our Own programme.

Over 300 apprentices later and we’ve never looked back! Creating our own apprenticeship programme increased our talent pipeline, improved the skills and capabilities of our workforce and has given our recruits an industry recognised qualification.

Our scheme is open to people of all ages, not just school leavers, and is designed to be the first step on a career in Food Manufacturing. The course is a mixture of on-the-job training and classroom learning, all completed under the careful supervision of our accredited training provider and will provide colleagues with a Level 2 Diploma in Food and Drink Manufacturing.

Our products are enjoyed more than one billion times a day, in over 200 countries and territories around the world - including the UK.

We are working to help build a more sustainable food system that meets the needs of our consumers without exceeding the planet's natural boundaries. Our sustainability journey stretches from the health and wellbeing of our consumers, to responsible sourcing, sustainable packaging, safeguarding natural resources and minimising waste.

Agriculture is the foundation of the food system and the root of PepsiCo’s business. To make our foods and beverages we use more than 25 crops sourced across 60 countries and support over one hundred thousand jobs in and throughout our agricultural supply chain. This scale and reach means the standards and practices that we employ and promote can influence the environmental, social and economic impacts of agriculture around the world.

Our Next Generation Agriculture strategy aims to drive progress in making agriculture more resilient, intelligent and inclusive.

Water is fundamental to our food system and to PepsiCo’s business. It nourishes the crops used to make our products, is the main ingredient in many of our beverages and an integral component of our manufacturing operations. But in some regions water is scarce, and climate change is worsening pressures on water resources around the globe. Estimates indicate that by 2025, two-thirds of the world’s population will live in water-stressed regions.

PepsiCo’s positive water impact strategy focuses on improving water stewardship across our business and in regions where we operate. Our ultimate goal is to support long-term, sustainable water security for all users, especially those in high water-risk areas.

As well as taking action in our own value chain, we aim to use our expertise and influence to advocate for the local policies and practices that can protect and replenish watersheds.

In an efficient food system packaging helps make safe, high-quality products accessible to all, extending shelf life and helping to limit food waste. But for it to have a role in a more sustainable food system we must eliminate packaging waste.

In 2018 plastic represented just under half of the total packaging material PepsiCo used, with aluminum, glass and fiber making up most of the balance. While plastic offers a highly effective, lightweight packaging material, producing fossil fuel-based plastic is a carbon-intensive process and, globally, only 14% of what is used is collected for recycling. The rest becomes waste. Where it is disposed of irresponsibly or where waste management is ineffective, it litters our communities and pollutes our oceans.

We have set an ambitious target to reduce 35% of virgin plastic use across our beverage portfolio by 2025. Progress will be driven by the increased use of recycled content and alternative packaging materials. Across PepsiCo’s business and our brands, we’ve made it a business imperative to help build a circular future for packaging and a world where plastics need never become waste.

As a global leader offering a wide variety of the world’s favourite foods and beverages we continue to expand our portfolio to offer more options for every taste, lifestyle and occasion.

We believe that a more sustainable food system should meet human needs for both nutrition and enjoyment. We’re working continually to introduce new products that have more of the nutritious ingredients our consumers need. And we are continuing to reformulate existing recipes across our portfolio to reduce added sugars, sodium and saturated fat so that consumers can continue to enjoy our most loved brands as part of a balanced diet.

The world faces worsening climate change. The warming of our planet is likely to worsen risk factors in our global food system, from extreme weather and water scarcity, to soil quality loss and disruption to the political, economic and social systems that underpin how we produce and distribute food.

The global food system is responsible for around 30% of greenhouse gas emissions. We believe that it can become more carbon-efficient and resilient and also play a significant role in regenerating the health of our climate through carbon sequestration.

Around the world people work every day to power the food system. From harvesting ingredients, to loading the lorries for distribution or placing an item on the store shelf, we rely on farmers, our colleagues, our retail partners and many others each day to create and sell our globally-recognised products.

This means we have an interest in the success and wellbeing of our people. We are committed to advancing respect for human rights throughout our value chain building diverse and inclusive workplaces and investing to promote shared prosperity in local communities where we live and work.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at PepsiCo full-time (More than 5 years)

All colleagues are highly professional and excellent at their jobs.
Ways of working are as important as the work itself.
Colleagues are supportive and encouraging, although top notch work is expected at all times.
Very flexible and understanding when home life demands creep in to your working day (nursery pick ups etc).
Promotion is based on excellence - all senior leaders are there for the right reasons and provide excellent value add.

I suppose a con could be that if you're not excellent, you'll be managed out of the company. Although for those left, this is a positive!
