Pros

You get to work with students from the top of the class to the bottom of the barrel. Most are easy and fun to work with.

Cons

Tutors are very undervalued both in pay and respect. The company charges the family $100+ per hour and tutors less than a quarter of it. Where does it all go?

Thanks for taking the time to give us feedback. We truly do value our tutors and pay a higher percentage of our tutoring rate to tutors than other comparable tutoring companies. We’d be happy to talk to you in more detail about how the hourly fee is spent at NW. That said, we’re concerned that you’re currently working with us given this feedback and we'd really appreciate the opportunity to discuss your concerns with you. It's important for you and for us, that working with us is a win-win. We hope to hear from you!

Pros

Everyone on staff (right up to the owners!) is incredibly warm and accessible. The hierarchal feeling of traditional companies is completely absent here. Instead, there's a sense that everyone is just collaborating to get things done, which is fantastic!

Cons

A con that's really a pro (depending on your fit with the company) is that NW is really really big on communication. You need to be able to express yourself well (and frequently!) since the staff has such limited face-to-face time, and most communication is done via email.

Pros

I worked for Nurturing Wisdom for a year, and I only left because I moved away. This company is fantastic. What first struck me was that everyone in NW has been a tutor themselves at some point. I've worked for schools and companies before in which this was not the case, and it was certainly frustrating then to have bosses who didn't understand what it's like to teach, or even what teaching requires logistically. At NW, we were all on the same page. My supervisors knew what they were talking about and helped me improve as a tutor. They put the students first, since we want to teach ourselves out of a job, but they actually care about the tutors as well! That's rather unusual, in my experience. Tutoring with NW did not feel like a profit-focused endeavor but a process in which every party was treated as a human. Getting matched with students and preparing materials could not have been more convenient. There is a slight learning curve for some of NW's strategies, but once you get the hang of them they become intuitive.

Cons

Naturally, some families and students can be difficult, but this is a part of teaching. NW always works with you to alleviate such situations.
