I worked at OYO full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Above average pay. Startup culture (for positive or negative)

    Cons

Will sign any site regardless of condition then instantly punish the operations team for the site being in poor condition, unfair and unhelpful pressure. Total lack of understanding of UK/Western Europe market, expectation of being able to bully staff and hotels as they do in India. Huge amount of office politics and plagiarism/stealing of your work from the India team.

I have been working at OYO full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very good team, wonderful people with lots of experience, learning a lot as I go even today. Good company culture and togetherness with everyone willing to help one another.

    Cons

Staff are worried about redundancies due to Covid and the constant negative press coverage of Oyo. Have to ask for a promotion, otherwise not given and Promotions are not coming at a fast enough pace. Certain Senior Leadership needs to go back to educating themselves about the hospitality industry. The tech of our competitors are better and we are constantly playing catch up.

I worked at OYO full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pay above market rate. I managed to escape during a pandemic when the job market was really tough.

    Cons

Leadership is appalling. Ive never experienced anything like it. The company has no strategy or direction. They don’t listen to skilled and experienced individuals that they have in the UK business that really understand the market in the UK, they just adopt a blanket approach that works in India, despite there being fundamental differences to the routes to market and the way people buy travel in the UK. I’ve never hated waking up for work so much, ever. Work life balance is a joke, with my manager promoting me being available by phone ‘24/7’ to the external world. Waking up to my work phone ringing with calls from India in the middle of the night. I left feeling numb after this place sucked the life out of me. You spend your whole time fighting with people over processes that are put in place to drive control, but that don’t make sense and completely prevent you from being able to do your job. They over hired and then made everyone redundant, which was decided pre-pandemic and then culled off everyone else as the pandemic hit, leaving very few of us and expected the same level of output. The platform that they sell to hoteliers is appalling, not fit for purpose and not suitable for how 90% of hotels are run in the UK. Many of the senior leaders are crooks that think bribery is acceptable, have no people skills and no idea about the market, the law, how successful UK based hospitality businesses are run.

I worked at OYO full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent salary. Some autonomy to work independently. People (though most have left in recent months)

    Cons

Take the recent positive reviews with a pinch of salt - they were requested of the staff to help improve the dire ratings. Unorganised and unprofessional mess. Majority of the team either work from India or are Indian and have no clue about UK etiquette, processes or law. This results in constant frustrations and multiple issues to fix. No desire to change things and improve for the future. No development or enjoyable culture. Most people are overworked, uninspired and can't wait to get out. Still pretends to be a big disruptor in the UK hospitality industry. The sad reality is they are a 2-star hotel franchise model with no clout and many disgruntled owners and suppliers.

I have been working at OYO full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Still building its value proposition and therefore lots of opportunities to own process or projects. Very few barriers to getting involved and carving out your own path. As the business is internationally based, remote work is the norm now and the business is investing in making this work for everyone. Colleagues are invested and hard working.

    Cons

Many challenging legacy issues with technology and process based on rapid expansion which complicate things. The brand is not as strong in the UK as in other geographies yet and while that builds it can be harder to gain the same traction in the marketplace. As ever in start up environments resiliance is needed as things can seem to take forever, or simple things can seem to be monumental to fix.
