Pros

- Fully remote but you can use their office if you want to. - Decent time-off policies and okay benefits. - Great Culture - Lots of opportunities to work on newer technologies

Cons

- They pay pretty poorly compared to the market. - Leadership team is very clueless about what they want to do. Many of them have not worked a day outside of this company and it shows with how poorly they are handling the company AFTER securing a decent funding. - The execs are just concerned about making a buck when they eventually sell the company. - Managers and CEO will lie to your face. They had another round of layoffs after the CEO said there won't be any more in the next year at least. Majority of managers do not even know what their direct-reports are working on, yet they hold TWO review cycles in a year with no development plan or goals discussion. - They acquired a LATAM based company for cheap developers so they can beat their competitors on price, while firing a major chunk of Canadian developers. - Sales only knows how to talk but not sell anything. So many engineers on the bench, yet they can't sell a project even if their lives depended on it. Poor sales performances, yet they always end up getting promoted. - They clearly have a group of favourites who can never do anything wrong.

Orium Response

We’re so glad you enjoy the culture at Orium and have had the opportunity to grow by experimenting with new technologies—these are areas we take great pride in. We’re sorry that the recent layoffs impacted your experience. We assure you the decision was not made lightly. These changes and other operational adjustments were essential to ensure that Orium remains well-positioned for sustainable growth. The acquisition of Gluo, a Mexico-based digital agency specializing in e-commerce, is also a key part of this strategy. We understand that some employees have concerns about the acquisition, particularly the perception that it signals a shift toward replacing Orium developers with Gluo developers to reduce costs. However, this is not the case. The primary motivation behind the acquisition is to serve the growing LATAM market better and offer new services to our customers in the United States. If you need clarification on the points above or have additional feedback, we encourage you to talk to a member of our HR or Culture teams. We’re always open to feedback!

Pros

Fully remote WFH subsidy Work-life balance and flexibility

Cons

Being laid off after being told "We're looking at good growth for 2024" felt like the most avoidable thing. Other orgs I've been at, they try to cut expenses in other areas of the company. Layoffs are a worse-case scenario. But here, it feels like it was the very first thing they did. Cutting benefits or selling the 2 condos in Downtown Toronto could have probably saved a few people's jobs. Instead, it seemed more important to keep the lucky remaining employees comfy. HR is very slow to respond, which is stressful when you need help finding a new job.
