Pros

The surroundings are nice and the coworkers are the best part of the job. There's no work outside of office hours and little expectation of staying after hours. In that respect, work-life balance is good. Plus QA is a good place to get started if it's your first job, but the advancement ceiling is pretty low.

Cons

There is a sense of deep mistrust toward employees in terms of time management and little true empathy beyond optics when a life event does crop up. This seems to affect women more harshly than men. Management is mercurial. Sometimes very kind and understanding, other times micromanaging and exacting. There doesn't seem to be a logic behind when requests are granted or denied. There's a genuine desire to make PlusQA a nice place to work, but this sense of instability permeates. It can be difficult as an employee to have a "safe" space to give feedback, since it appears to be random when feedback is welcome and when it's taken very negatively. Somehow management seems to respond to a concern that was raised in private between employees on Slack, which gives the impression that they are monitoring it closely. I have heard from several sources that employees have been asked by management to leave positive reviews on Glassdoor, sometimes only a week or two into their employment.

Dear former employee, I believe that we show trust in our employees and empathy for both men and women, all genders and nationalities on our team. We offer 8 weeks paid maternity leave and additional unpaid time off when requested. Over the years we have had employees who have experienced serious illness or a close person passing away or a family member in a difficult situation. In each situation we do our best to be accommodating and understanding. I also want to add that our company is 50% woman-owned and half of our management is composed of women. As the Founder of the company I am always engaged to hear feedback from the team. Based on your comments it sounds like it was not a positive experience for you. I can assure you we do not monitor conversations, especially private ones between employees. We simply ask our team to remain professional and respectful in public and private channels. And we respond to concerns that are brought to our attention by employees. We have occasionally mentioned to employees they can write a review on GlassDoor if they would like. It is completely optional, anonymous and we have no say if their review is positive or negative. Reviews from current employees can give an accurate view of what it is like to work here.

Pros

Good number of machines and a lot of physical devices to test

Cons

Job offer is contingent on a 3 day trial period. They hire a lot of people at once and then cherry pick which personality best fits with their organization. Has nothing to do with the quality of your work or experience (I was a lead for years on multi-million dollar projects). Maybe because they only want butt kissing yes-men under their project leads. Like many other young companies, I sensed quite a bit of favoritism. The founders and close friends were the only ones that were high ranking. Do not quit your job until after the trial period to make sure that you have been selected. Even then, its only 18$/hour and part time with no benefits. Also the area of the location is in super ghetto part of SE. It's in a high crime area on Martin Luther King Blvd and Madison. They're homeless people are shards of tempered glass everywhere you go. This is because people break into your vehicle and steal your belongings. Plus QA offers no parking, so you’re stuck paying for all day passes at nearby lots.

Pros

Good foot in the door, especially if you're coming from outside the tech industry. You initially learn a lot. Peers are kind. I recommend staying here for a year and moving on.

Cons

After learning to do the job, they don't want you to further your education or grow and move on. They don't do raises with inflation. There is no clear career path. The job is low paying with not-so-great benefits. They will promote anyone but don't give appropriate compensation and will not compromise. You will get scolded for talking about compensation and they ask you not to talk about it. The company overall is unprofessional and petty. I felt like they were making up rules on the fly and will be dishonest with their employees. The more you learn about what goes on in the background, the ickier it feels to work there. Although peers are kind, it seems like it's not encouraged to be friendly with coworkers. Especially if you are in management. 3 sick days and the PTO isn't great either. Just stay part-time and move on, they are exploiting their employees. A warning for part-time, your hours will get cut last minute without notice. It's the nature of the projects but they will not give you hours if they don't like you.

Dear former employee, I’m sorry to hear you had a poor experience while working with us. Our employees’ well being is important to us. In addition to standard sick time and PTO, we offer paid mental health day and additional sick leave for COVID. We also offer weekly work out classes. Our full-time and part-time employees are eligible to join the company 401k plan which has a strong company match. Employee connections and friendships are something we have always tried to foster which is why we plan company-wide and team events throughout the year and have non-work related Slack channels based on employees’ interests. Our employees have the option to work 100% from home, which we realize is important to them. We have employees who have been with us for over 10 years and if they felt like they were being exploited I assume they would not be with us anymore. The majority of our employees started with us as part-time QA Analysts and had the opportunity to grow within the company over the years which is something we encourage. We also encourage open communication. If there is an issue or concern we want to be aware of it so we can try to resolve it. I am not sure what you experienced in terms of scheduling however a part-time employee’s hours are rarely cut last minute. It can happen if a client postpones a project but it is definitely not the norm. We assign testers to projects based on their availability and skill set. I wish you the best and I hope you will have a positive experience at your next job.
