Not what it used to be

      Pros

No lesson planning- very simple lesson slides to follow. Opportunity to adapt to each student’s learning style and ability as teaching is 1:1 Students are wonderful Remote working Set your hours

      Cons

Administration don’t ever reply, and if they do it’s utterly unhelpful. No room for “life”- eg heavily penalised for sick days etc. My wage used to be double what it is now, for the same effort that I consistently put into classes as I do now. The way the points system works now makes it difficult to advance and this it has become an unsustainable job for me, sadly.

      Pros

Work from home. Close to my pets.

      Cons

Very poorly paid and you get fined at every chance they get to make the pay even worse. (this includes because your student WIFI has a poor connection!) You can appeal against a fine, but you have to pay a processing fee for this privilege and you are unlikely to have this go in your favour. If you are taken ill and even sent to hospital, this is no reason for you to not continue teaching your classes. Any you miss you will be fined for. If you are 1 second late then you will be fined. If your Mother dies and you miss a class, you will be fined. If your house burns down and you miss a class, you will be fined. You teach from slides that frequently have very poor English on them and a lot of it doesn't make sense. (they make it sound like it is a common job in the UK to work as a hotel human bed warmer, I kid you not!) You have to be in the classroom for longer than you get paid and then you have to complete reports in your own time. They refuse to listen to their teachers. They will book classes in seconds before the class is due to start, so if you are not sat at your computer then.... you guessed it, you will be fined. They have recently given all teachers a 40% pay CUT. They are taking on teachers at a lower rate and this is likely to go down again, with no notice. They have lately been sacking people and closing their pre booked classes and then they fine them for not giving enough notice that the lessons have been cancelled! I look forward to leaving this shambles of a company..... that is if they don't axe me first for some made up excuse, as seems to have happened to many other teachers.
