Pros

One thing that stands out was the opportunity I had to collaborate with some exceptional people at the individual contributor (IC) level. I genuinely enjoyed working alongside these talented professionals and truly learned a lot from them virtually every time we collaborated.

Cons

In my time at Paperless, I noticed several concerning issues. There appeared to be a significant level of insecurity and fear in meetings, which hindered open communication. Whenever I voiced my concerns or suggestions, it was clear that others felt the same way, as I'd receive private messages from colleagues thanking me for speaking up. Unfortunately, these concerns rarely led to any meaningful changes. Speaking up during meetings often resulted in feeling judged or looked down upon, creating a discouraging atmosphere for open discussion. Additionally, providing accurate estimates for work was most always met with negative reactions from those who appeared to glorify long working hours. Moreover, the company seemed to prioritize work above all else, which can be challenging for those with commitments outside of work. It was apparent that the primary focus was on ensuring investor return, not on individual growth or happiness.

While we do have a focus on investors and supporting our growth, our team members being effective is equally as important. We see company success and employee engagement as essential to each other. If you are not being heard in your team, we want to work with you to address the issue - you can reach out to me (Jaclyn) or your SLT member any time. While talking to peers can be comforting, reaching out to those who can make an immediate change is your best course of action. We do want to hear from you!

Grew too quick and hired poor leaders

Pros

The manufacturing industry is in need of innovation. Product is decent.

Cons

We are squandering an opportunity to disrupt an industry. It’s because of leaderships incompetence, a horrendous culture that disguises micro management and over working employees by dubbing it “grittiness”, and stalled product development. Too many big egos. Leaders don’t provide the proper tools for success and constantly make irrational decisions. Total disorganization. Almost every single employee I know is planning an escape route.

Bogus reviews, bogus company

Pros

There really are not any.

Cons

The product is clunky and buggy. Leadership is inexperienced and building the wings as they fly. Challenges and difficulty are contrived and owed to poor vision. Easy to end up ostracized if you don’t capitulate to their demands of being “gritty” i.e., being 24/7 available. These glowing reviews are a reflection of the cultish culture, not the reality of working there

As a startup navigating a difficult economy in an industry that has just begun to embrace software solutions, there are times when we will need to make decisions quickly and based on limited information. However, our focus on company level shared goals, supporting our customer's needs and operating precisely to plan has helped to lower these instances. With hundreds of customers, below industry standard churn numbers and excellent onboarding progress, we're quite confident that our product will continue to emerge as a standard system of work in our industry. Work life balance is a shared responsibility between employees and companies - while we love to be gritty (eg we dive into the hard work, even if its not pretty!) there is not an expectation to be available 24/7 in any group. We want our employees to rest in the way that they feel is most meaningful to them and provide multiple resources and benefits to do just that.
