Unprofessional Management, Terrible Lack of Diversity

Pros

Interesting product - at least before new CEO and COO joined the company. Hard to say what direction the platform will continue to take.

Cons

Management has a very difficult time being honest - the organization has been letting employees go left, right and center all year. They will often say, please do not be concerned as this is the last wave of restructuring and let the very same people go the following week. Lets not blatantly lie to employees about the state of affairs at PathFactory. Terrible lack of diversity in management, and I've noticed that employees "randomly" terminated without due cause are often POC despite outperforming others on the team. Really awful company culture and attitude. I believe the organization used to be a great place to work but it's now just a bunch of disgruntled employees who are upset, lack direction from management, and unsure of their future at PF. Employees were asked to voluntarily give blood to help our former CEO. I hope he appreciates the amount of time and effort his employees put into this endeavor in his time of need, many of whom he terminated shortly thereafter. I think that is pretty unethical.

Thank you for your feedback. I understand there have been a lot of changes within the organization with our new CEO and COO and those changes are not always easy to adjust to. We have had a downsizing this year and that was an extremely tough decision our leadership team made in hopes to find success moving forward. As far as our terminated employees, we do not share the details behind the reasons with everyone in the organization as we would like to maintain confidentiality with the individuals it directly impacts. PathFactory is committed to having a diverse workforce as we believe it allows us to have diversity of thought and can lead to an improved culture and overall success. I am sorry if your experience with us did not reflect that. With our former CEO going through a very difficult health issue, we decided to promote a blood drive. In no way did we ask people to donate blood who didn’t want to and I am sorry if you felt that it was disingenuous in any way. We know there is a blood shortage in Canada and wanted to recognize the individuals who wanted to help out. I know this was a very comforting thought to our former CEO when he went through his surgeries knowing that we were all rooting for him. We will make sure to voice your concerns with our management team in hopes we can do better and create a better environment to work in. Additionally, please feel free to reach out to Employee Experience if you would like to discuss this in further detail, we are always open to feedback.

Pros

You work with colleagues around you who are generally supportive, and work life balance is great. Overtime generally does not exist, and when it does, there is some compensation. The office is dog-friendly, and there's catered lunch on Fridays. The general colleagues you work with are almost like a family and are generally very kind.

Cons

Compensation is on the low end of the spectrum, especially when you factor in things like benefits (EI payments are only topped up by $357/week for the first sixteen weeks only, for example), or even the laptops we work on, which are the lowest-end 13'' MacBook Pro. We have lost productivity because our development machines are insufficient. We also haven't seen any raises in the last year and a half, and while I don't expect a 20% increase, I would at least think one just for inflation is more than a reasonable ask. My supervisor has no idea why his requests for salary adjustments have been muted. Several within the department have long deserved promotions and how to get to the next level has been unclear from high up. There was a change of guard two months ago. Before the change of regime, working in R&D, to say the least, was pretty bad. There was a lot of toxicity and finger-pointing, and some people left due to that situation. There was also one round of layoffs due to a missed sales quarter. The new regime came in. Since then, a second round of layoffs occured, and turnover has also greatly increased, with 2-3 people leaving most weeks since. Half of the executives have either been let go or have, well left. Some were critical and their work effectively went unnoticed, which we now have to backfill. This has been causing a major pain point for us at the moment. Our overall headcount is now almost 30% below our headcount just in January alone. Much of the said family earlier is gone. Moreover, part of the second round of layoffs was supposedly to free up additional cash to invest in R&D, with insistence we hire developers from India, but there has been very little communication about our direction and the next steps with respect to that and supposedly even the highest-up in R&D don't really know what's going on.

Not a good experience

Pros

Great marketing technology. Significant market potential.

Cons

Significant lack of transparent communication from senior leadership team. SLT lacks direction, is not open to new ideas, and think they are the smartest people in the world. Questionable ethics. Do not treat employees as human beings. Make quick drastic decisions on direction of company. Organizationally not set up for success.
