Deep Nepotism

Pros

Retirement and Medical are the only top pros overall. Otherwise, it’s the baseline legal knowledge that you would obtain from your position in the court.

Cons

Deep nepotism that’s unbelievably frustrating for any new employees coming onboard. No matter how hard you work you will not get anywhere due to the small town environment. Antiquated managerial ideology places seniority over work-ethic, ingenuity, etc. yet they wonder why they have a high turnover! Any individual with dignity and intellect will surely leap at the chance of a different opportunity thus leaving the same old employees who’ve been there 10-20 years. There is also this underlined hierarchy present in the court where several of the judicial assistants feel entitled to yell or converse demeaning statements to those in the clerks office. It’s absolutely a toxic atmosphere. You also can’t go to your supervisor for help as they too are apart of the problem. The culture is disturbed.

Pros

There are so many hardworking, skilled and intelligent employees loyally serving the community at Pinal County.

Cons

Employees are undervalued and many areas are short-handed. Due to a 2016 compensation study comparing Pinal County with small, obscure, non-competitive government employers, starting salaries are much too low to attract new qualified applicants.

Pros

Small county meant good health department experience. I was allowed to put 2500 dollars a year into a flex spending account instead of getting health a health insurance policy.

Cons

If any of my friends or family told me they were considering a position with Pinal County Health Department I would tell them to run and run fast. I stuck it out for 3 years and was thrown into 2 internal investigations. They blatantly violate thier own policies and then just write new ones to cover thier mistakes. Management goes out of the way to make this place miserable. I used to have to tell 6, yes 6 different people if I needed a couple hours off for a doctors appointment. If I was lucky those 6 people might communicate with each other. Management doesn't get along at all so it is basically high school drama. It might actually be comical except you have to deal with it everyday. The pay is awful and the only thing they can think of is to threaten to fire everyone all the time. Walking away from the place was the smartest thing I could have done.
