Pros
Because this is a wholesale office and warehouse environment, the hours are Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm. You'll get a small discount on overpriced, poor quality clothing.
Cons
This company likes to take a "laid back" approach when it comes to attire, attitude and conduct within the office, however in the duration of my employment I witnessed more than enough racist, sexist, rude and unprofessional behaviour and comments by senior staff / management. Employees will never be paid over time regardless of working tradeshows during the weekend or offering to stay late or come in early to complete work during shipping season. Hard work goes extremely unappreciated and unacknowledged in this work place. This company is constantly understaffed and has a high turnover of warehouse staff, account managers, design team and interns. Every employee is expected to pick up the slack in every department when staffing is low, for example a graphic designer could be asked to pack boxes in the warehouse. It is hard to get work done in an environment like this, but employees cannot complain that "this wasn't in the job description" because new hires will never receive an official contract, job description, or compensation plan. There are also no benefits at this company. Despite taking on more responsibility, employees will most likely never be compensated or given a raise, and if you are lucky enough to not get fired or reprimanded for asking for a raise, the owner will make sure you know how much you didn't deserve it or how he could have an intern do your job for free. Other employees are hired based on how little they can be paid, and usually never skill level. This company also has a bad reputation for constantly trying to underpay professionals that work with them: photographers, models, sales agents etc. Anyone working in the creative department is given next to no creative freedom, as the owner is pretty demanding when it comes to his own ideas. He has very little trust in the people that he hires, and treats them as if they are simply there to execute his vision and nothing more. The owner and "Head Designer" has no actual knowledge of technical fashion design, textiles or pattern drafting, which makes for an extremely uninspiring and frustrating working environment. The owner does not take criticism well and will often present employees' ideas as his own. If there is a conflict between staff members, there is no HR department or official protocol to deal with it, so the owner will usually call all of the employees in the company to discuss the situation, regardless of it being confidential information and extremely unprofessional. Office staff / sales reps are not expected to act professionally in the office, so anyone hired in the office can anticipate listening to frequent yelling over the phone, and screaming at other employees, as the office environment is fairly open concept. When making a complaint about harassment in the workplace: if the employee who is at fault is a long-time employee, there will be no action taken to attempt to resolve the situation. If an employee is asked to work in the warehouse be aware that there are no safety regulations put in place, the warehouse has probably never been inspected to be up to code, and employees are never asked to wear proper attire, ie: closed toe shoes, etc. There is no room to grow within this company, because of general lack of trust for employees. Overall, this was an extremely unprofessional working environment, and any young, confident, skilled job-seeker should look for employment elsewhere at a company that recognizes hard work and ambition.
