Pros

Written from a corporate engineer's perspective; your department will determine your experience: You won't work too hard, and taking breaks to converse with coworkers is not frowned upon. Free coffee, fresh (but slightly burned) at any time of day. Depending on your job, you will be exposed to most of the plant and lots of different machines and processes over time. You do not lose vacation time for sick days or appointments during business hours. Match 100% of 401(k) contributions up to 6% of salary. Health insurance is reasonably priced.

Cons

Management pyramid is very short, low mobility once you're in. Vacation allowance is 0 first year, 40 hours years 2 and 3, 80 thereafter until you get 120 after 15 years; you can negotiate to change this. The 401(k) does not come with any options and is in low-yielding investments, making it unsuitable for investors with more than 10 years left until retirement. Plant areas are not climate-controlled. Bonuses are not part of the culture, and there is no automatic prompting for raises.

Pros

Poly-America has come from humble beginnings to become an industry leader in blown film products. I sought out and purchased their brands exclusively because they were of the highest quality, long before I became part of their workforce. My co-workers were friendly, competent and always ready to help or answer my questions.

Cons

Substandard wages. Management tends to treat the "blue shirt" employees more like an expendable commodity than the keys to the company's success that they truly are.
