Pros

Good facilities, gym on site, canteen

Cons

The definition of a toxic workplace is: ‘Toxic workplaces are created by the actions of toxic employers or employees; that is, individuals who are motivated by personal gain, whether driven by power, money, fame, or special status, utilize unethical means or behaviors to psychologically manipulate, belittle, or frustrate those around them, or divert attention away from their personal inadequate performance or misdeeds.’ I could not describe Radius in a more perfect way. There is 0 trust in the team or any employee which manifests itself in being micromanaged to within an inch of your life, there is 0 flexibility as no one is trusted , We have to get approval for literally everything (e.g every flexible working request has to get signed off by C-suite and it’s 99% of the time a no), no empowerment to make any decision, a ridiculous workload that is only manageable if you work every hour under the sun (which is expected from you). The HR strategy (if you can call it that) is to ‘save money’ which is at the expense of the employee. They will make barely legal but immoral decisions just to save a bit of money that will severely impact employees. There is 0 duty of care which results in so many mental and physical consequences. The team just work operationally, there is no big picture thinking. This was shown in the engagement survey, but leadership have an inability to look inwards at their own behavior and decisions. The People team’s engagement survey was the lowest in the business due to the reasons outlined above and down to the fact we don't follow our own process' even though we are meant to lead by example. Turnover is ridiculously high, 4 directors left within 12 months. The two that have stayed just feed into the culture, the others got out quick. High level of disrespect from directors/CPO to the rest of the team. All in all, believe the reviews and don’t work here

Pros

Because we are 'all in it together' you do get very close with your team as you support each other trying to navigate your way through the toxicity of Radius. The cafe was good before they put the prices up. Now no one goes because the don't want to pay the prices! The pizzas are not good

Cons

The culture is the main issue. Radius has a reputation in the area for being an awful place to work and they are right. Everyone lives in constant fear. Fear of losing their jobs. Fear of getting onto the radar of senior management who will then bully you and force you to move into a position you don't want. Fear of a certain 'chairman' losing it at you. Everyone is on a weeks notice regardless of your role (we have to give 1 or 3 months) and so people just disappear with no warning and everyone else is expected to ask no questions and pick up the workload. Its not right on the people leaving and its not right for the rest of us to be expected to work 60+ hour weeks to get everything done. There is 0 flexibility. Someone in my team was denied working from home for 1 day so they could go and see their kids nativity on lunch. Radius sees people as a number, they don't care that they ruin lives. If you look at every other company on Glassdoor, they respond to negative reviews because they care when people have a bad opinion of the place. Notice Radius hasn't responded to a single bad review The People team is like a revolving door of people which also speaks volumes

Pros

There genuinely are no pros.

Cons

As someone who joined the Grad Scheme, it took them a whole 5 months for the company to communicate how the programme and study days work and what your study day allowance actually is - except even now I think they got the number by asking someone to pick a number between 1 and 10 as I was told that I had 9.5 study days total left to attend my remaining 15 lectures (each lecture taking a whole day) and sit 3 exams. I was also thrilled to find out, as someone who had taken 2 study days up to that point, I had the same remaining balance as someone who had taken 10+ study days and sat 2 exams. Despite the fact I started 4 months before everyone else I was also told my annual review would be pushed back 4 months as it wouldn't be fair on the others - Somehow I don't think that's how "fair" works. If you come to an interview on site and park on the car park - unless you about to become a manager you will never park there again. The people team are very talented in sending out sternly worded emails that we should NOT be parking on the carpark of the offices we work at - and provide you with a link to the Cheshire East council and ask you to utilise the nearest Pay and Display car parks the closest of which is a 10-15 minute walk away and costs £12/day - funnily enough Radius is not willing to comp the £3000 annually they are asking you to spend to park. Don't even think about asking to work from home either, they just built 2 empty offices and need to feel like they didn't waste their money - if you drive in your first task of the day is finding a place to park. The idea of even thinking of asking to WFH is a sin here. There was the event where the owner was ranked as being richer than the King - the only reason I am aware of this is because he was walking around telling people he was. Apparently the King doesn't have enough money to build more parking spaces or pay their staff? Considering the consensus is that Radius pays well below market average and their grad scheme pay package is probably the lowest of any you will find it really speaks for the type of people in senior management and how in touch they are with the people they want through the doors. There are constant comments about salary budget being too high and there's no attempts to replace anyone who leaves - in a 6 month period half of the team I was in left, not a single one of them was replaced. The work just goes to someone unfortunate enough to not be able to just leave. The company seems to like their "sustainability meetings" where they tell you you will be fired if you don't start doing more work, even if your team doesn't have much to do. It's just another tactic to get you to do other people's work. No wonder the turnover rate is unlike any other place. Contracted workings hours are also just a suggestion - most staff end up starting earlier and finishing later in the office and then go to log on at home. This isn't expected at first but you'll start feeling the pressure more and more, and no you won't get your time back. Flexibility is a one way street at Radius and it's not in the employee's favour. "Rules for thee, not for me" is also a big part of the culture. Managers will be walking around with big tattoos on show - but if you dare have any showing - you will have a copy of the handbook thrown in your face with the policy on tattoos highlighted and asked to cover up, as office staff, who never interact with customers or 3rd parties. That and certain teams get away with doing things others will tell you you can't do. I'm not sure anyone actually agrees with what's allowed and what isn't. My suggestion to the company is to start "Radius Circus" because working there is a joke and the only thing you can do is laugh at how bad it is. The one thing you'll have in common with your fellow staff is that everyone is looking for other jobs. I'd actually pay to see the results of the recent happiness survey be released by country - The fact they consolidated results from 12+ countries they operate into one "satisfaction" figure is doing a disservice to the UK staff who I guarantee gave less than stellar reviews. They think you are stupid and aren't afraid to treat you as such - do yourself a favour and look past this company. Unless you're someone who just graduated and you have no other options, you're not wanted anyway. You're not just dodging a bullet, but a missile.
