Pros

Will hire you with limited experience Pay is better than typical retail rates Peer coworkers were very supportive and passionate about the work

Cons

Aggressively top-down structure. Lots of policing and very little support from management. Incompetence. Admin don't understand what skills are needed and are mostly looking for warm bodies to fill grants. No sustainability. Grants get picked up for the $$$ and the programs disappear when funding dries up. They toss employees on whatever projects sre paying at the time. Toxic management/ high staff turnover. I had worked there for under 2 years when I left and I was the seniormost employee in our office. It was common for employees and managers to suddenly disappear after a year or two due to extreme burnout. Those who stay in the org long-term are the type who want to perpetuate the current culture, and everyone else moves on as soon as they can.

Pros

-meaningful, fulfilling, fun work -employees are all well meaning, good people - Teresa Fernandez is fantastic. Amazing leader

Cons

- Some supervisors/Managers/Directors, although well-meaning, we’re not great leaders, they somehow micromanaged and also neglected staff at the same time. We were set up to fail due to poor leadership and when I brought my issues and needs as an employee to their attention, I was retaliated against by being scrutinized over every little thing. Any time off request I had was denied. If I had a sick day, they forced me to bring a doctors note or risk being fired. It was unfortunate because the work was such great work. - pay was low - can dramatically switch your job title and duties without asking you

Cons

grant farm, so lots of time spent reporting for grants and not a lot of community work, super high turnover rates
