      Great employer

      Pros

Redgate are very flexible and put the employee first. Have done a great job during the pandemic and supported remote working.

      Cons

Only slight downside I can think of is the commute being Cambridge based, but this is largely mitigated by the flexible start time allowing you to avoid the worst of the traffic.

      Pros

Good benefits Nice people to work with Very understanding of individual needs Great training Good prospects for promotion

      Cons

You could earn more but the salary is still very good and the flexibility and culture make up for this. It's still evolving which is also exciting to be there. They have gone from a one man band to a multi million pound organisation and are moving to a billion dollar org.

      A Truly Passionate Company

      Pros

Redgate are unlike anywhere I have ever worked before. They care just as much about making amazing products as they do their staff. Perks are amazing, overtime is all but banned, there are constant checkups to make sure you have everything you need. Career progression is very important to them. They have pivoted to being a remote first company amazingly. They really believe in agile - and actually carry it out in a truly agile way.

      Cons

      Honestly there are no cons.

No progression options and consistently negative managers

      Pros

There are some very talented and lovely people that do their best to create a good atmosphere. Fun team and company events when they can happen. Also, if you can last 5 years in the same role, they offer a 6-week sabbatical.

      Cons

Extremely limited career progression, favouring externals and no value put on internal knowledge and relationships. No consistency in roles and salaries across a single team let alone divisions. Absolute luck of the draw with managers, some genuinely care and want the best for their team others are bullies who only see the negatives and use 1:1s as a regular opportunity to reiterate that you’re not going to progress anywhere. If you’re part of the clique you’re onto a winner, if not don’t expect anything in return for all of the extra hours (on top of a 40 hour week) you’ll need to do.

Lots of good and lots of bad

      Pros

Everyone is really friendly and it's rare you'll ever meet someone you don't get along with. Lots of chance for personal development. 4 hours on a Friday afternoon to work on your own thing. Adapted well to remote working, but the process of getting new equipment remotely is a hassle and you have to have a good valid reason why you need something. Getting a standing desk is unlikely unless you have pain or are disabled which is fair enough given how many people request one. Team sizes are small so you can get to know some people really well and start to feel like a family. Lots of benefits from health insurance, life insurance, pension matching and sabbatical for those that decide to give 5 years of their life. Profit share. Work is quite relaxed which is both good and bad as it gets quite boring if no progress is made. Opportunity to reteam once a year.

      Cons

Too many meetings. Two monthly updates is ridiculous and really slows down work. Sometimes a meeting is booked by a manager to get a better idea of the problem at hand, but there really is no good agenda and it ends up being a dead end. Too much emphasis on pair and mob programming. Some people end up not contributing greatly which means that work is finished much more slowly. Not everybody at the company fits the culture and has an inflated sense of self worth which makes it incredibly difficult to enjoy your job. Pay could be better for Cambridge but remote first means that pay has improved as a side effect. Not enough holidays. Its not like we're under huge time constraints so there is room to improve here. You can buy days but that isn't the point. Reteaming is great for sharing knowledge but at the same time it splits up the families. I went through a stage of depression after switching team and still haven't fully recovered. Not a very interesting domain. Some products are great but others not so much. Not all managers are very active in development. Some teams are made up from inexperienced developers which little input from lead software engineers and technical leads which results in worse products and wasted development time. This isn't the same for all teams.

      Pros

Work culture, benefits, free breakfast. Lovely staff.

      Cons

Management style is quite old fashioned and out of touch. Very poor gender balance. Inappropriate jokes and behaviour at times. I felt the role was oversold.

Amazing company - great to work for, great culture!

      Pros

I was excited about starting at Redgate but worried it would not live up to the hype of being a great place to work. I was wrong - it was even better than that! Great office, great people, real collaborative atmosphere, great benefits - good quality free breakfasts and lunch every day, flexible working. It makes you feel so proud to work there and wear the hoodie! Good support and development if you are after that and they do care about their staff. Never seen a company like that before, and I have seen a few! CEO is an inspiration and the leaders passionately care about the people and the company. Lots of people promoted quickly and if you are good, you can rise up the org. Best christmas parties!

      Cons

Leaving is hard! I don't think you will find anything better in terms of enjoying your role, although you may find somewhere closer to home or paying more money. The only con is the traffic in the area, oh, and the fact that occasionally if you are late for breakfast they may have run out of sausages!
