Pros

- Engineering and QA teams are very capable and remain productive & proactive despite a rapidly deteriorating organization culture - Founders are very involved and eager to still be individual contributors for design, CS, ops, and product

Cons

- Founders are overly involved to the point of factory-conditions-like scrutiny and micromanagement - Founders believe their previous stints involved in some product, design, and engineering work make them equally capable as employees in those functions, and will make passive-aggressive comments about employee's work and suggestions, to the point of overriding story point estimates and saying things like they might as well do design or coding tasks themselves; they have a skewed sense of who are contributing value to the company - Poor hiring at the middle management level and weeding those who have their own ideas to improve things has left the company with a lot of yes-men who do not have the capability to push back against founders' unreasonable demands, which in turn further reduces the ability of individual contributors to push for changes - Chaotic HR practices around bonuses, leaves, and work arrangements; many changes from what was agreed on in the signing contract such as pushing 50% of bonuses to the following year and adjusting notice period windows, failing to pay full bonus amounts, messing up annual leave totals, enforcing certain members return to the office due to outdated beliefs around productivity while allowing others to work fully remote - Sustainability and social good are not core values and drivers for the business beyond greenwashing and copying what competitors are doing; concerns about issues like user's privacy and attempts to focus on anything beyond the financial bottom line are dismissed

Pros

- company's revenue is growing YoY - company received some funding this 2 years with more than 2 years of runways ahead

Cons

- HR in Singapore often make a mess yet is not accountable, example of mess created are - Bonus not being paid correctly for almost everyone in SG team but avoid the responsibility - Changed in bonus structure and notice period "took effect" but new contract is not generated yet after 3 months - Mess up the leave system and everyone have their leave number wrong - Request to HR was never being attended - CEO loves to micro-manage stuff, but doesn't realize that his micro-manage style is the reason hindering the growth of the company and blame it to teams that not putting enough hours into work - Unrealistic timeline is a norm here that could be worsen with poor planning from mid and upper management, features can often be planned this week and wanted the dev to release the following week, only figured it's blocked by business team after dev work is done - Don't expect the mid-management can help in your career growth as they are too busy entertaining the upper management

Treatment of employees requires an urgent review

Pros

- Exponential growth year on year

Cons

SEVERE lack of accountability from the SINGAPORE HR side: - Wrong computation of monthly performance bonuses despite mutual agreement between direct supervisor & employee for given amount - Tracking of annual leaves (via employee portal) are poorly managed; Figures are wrong (random) most of the times. - Change in bonus structure unbeknown to employees until pressured for an answer (Employees have yet to receive a revised contract for months with relation to this) - Late payslips (up to a couple of months) - MOST IMPORTANTLY, HR personnel ONLY respond to your queries when issues are escalated to upp mgmt. Otherwise, be prepared to be IGNORED. (To further justify this, HR personnel are rarely seen in person; ironically, not adhering to an employee attendance roster managed by themselves ) Poor recruitment of middle management common across all functions: - Middle management day2day focused solely on placating founders rather than reviewing and improving internal processes - Non-existent leadership qualities and presence within the company/internal teams. Also, very exploitative of their own team. - Lack of negotiation prowess (Likely due to a lack of experience in the relevant industry) to push back on founder's suggestions - Results in being irrelevant/phase out with minimal contribution relative to founders and/or working level individuals.
