Pros

The workers on the ground are very passionate

Cons

Senior management are clueless. SMT's response to a scathing article in the Civic Society was to ask current staff to write positive reviews on glass door, when this didn't happen SMT took to writing glowing "fake" reviews themselves. You can spot these reviews as they have these traits, they typically mention Sandra Horley or CEO, they have the audacity to say there are no cons to working at Refuge - side bar for a moment, a company that has NO CONS get real! They attack ground staff and say things like, "show some loyalty" "no one is irreparable" "don't judge" instead of addressing a very serious internal cultural problem SMT are pandering to the public, why not mention that an entire Directorate walked out on mass or that 3 permanent Directors of Fundraising came and went within 2 years?

Nepotism is rife, toxic environment, terrible leadership

Pros

Passionate front line and non-senior staff

Cons

Incredibly disappointing charity to work for. I accepted the role anticipating an empowering and inspiring environment but was met with a disheartened, beaten down work force. Senior management are controlling, close minded, corrupt, and archaic. Nepotism runs through the organisation with family members and friends of senior management being hired without being formerly interviewed.

Pros

Many highly committed women Good systems and processes in terms of work with service users Well resourced Excellent training Glamorous head office on Tower Bridge

Cons

Systemic lack of care for employees wellbeing There are several women at the head of the organisation that are not good or kind people and regularly take deeply unethical actions Bullying is tolerated HR processes ignored at the whim of the CEO and other senior staff (bullying allegations / exit interview feedback / recruitment of CEOs daughter without advertising/interview) Poor on equalities issues Spend funds inappropriately (huge senior salaries/ glamorous head office on Tower Bridge) Lack integrity A disappointing place to work for most feminists and anyone working towards genuine equality for all
