Lot's of opportunity

Pros

The company keeps expanding and offers career advancement for those who are willing to accept responsibility. Most of the managers have been promoted from the sales floor (6 i think) and a number of sales associates have developed careers at the Head Office.Anyone i know who has left have bettered themselves due to the experience that they had here. It is a fast paced innovative environment and the management focus on improving our knowledge and getting us engaged. Great place to work if you want a career but not just a job.

Cons

We had a long work week but that was addressed over a year ago. Great benefits except no dental.

Pros

Great relationship with store manager who cares about their staff and HR seems to be trying to create a better culture but the insincerity from the execs is ruining it. Get to build great relationships with customers and their pets. Help rescues fundraise.

Cons

Wages are far too low. As FT I barely get more than minimum wage. Not enough staff to service the customers properly. Customers can be unreasonable. Prices are getting too high and staff get screamed at for it. Hours are all over the place. One week you get lots of hours next week none. Benefits are pitiful. There’s a health spending account but I can’t afford to pay up front and submit receipts with what I’m being paid. It’s a joke.

Pros

After reading the Glassdoor views, I was quite afraid to start working at Ren's. I have now passed my 1 year mark, and can honestly say I have no idea what those reviews are referring to. Yes there is quite a bit of work to be done, but this is not uncommon in a corporate setting. I personally like the fact that the managers and VPs aren't paid to babysit their staff. By working hard, gaining relationships and having a good attitude, you will rise in the company. I very much enjoy the culture and have made long lasting relationships.

Cons

- Benefits could be better (no dental) - High turnover rate (Management tends not to keep employees that have a poor working attitude)

Pros

Family owned business. Everyone is professional and mature. Gossip, drama and stress is minimal. Great hard-working people to work with. Relaxed atmosphere. Get to see and interact with lots of dogs, puppies, even some exotics that come in to the store. We do not sell any live animals and that is a good thing! Pay is reasonable. Good employee discounts. Customers LOVE Ren's over the other big-box stores. Makes me proud to work there.

Cons

No benefits for part-timers. No full time work for floor associates (all new hired cashiers do get full-time if they want it though). Turnover is high. Corporate management (owner) has visions for the company to grow but not all employees and/or customers want to see it become a big-box company.

Employees don’t matter

Pros

Dogs coming into the store

Cons

Laughable wages for the amount of work required. Absolutely no employee loyalty. Benefits are the absolute bare minimum. Employee turnover throughout the entire company is very high. The expectations and pressure put on minimum wage workers is untenable. Managers doing shady things and then firing staff for doing the same things.

Pros

If you are animal crazy this job is for you! People love to bring their pets shopping with them so it was always nice to meet new dogs and cats. Co-works were mostly great, only a few weirdo's that come and go. If you are a "chosen one" you may get to be apart of neat events. There is always something to do so it rarely gets boring, plus you always have someone to work with. The system is easy to learn. The products are pretty easy to sell. They typically promote within, so if you stick it out long enough you will likely move up.

Cons

Don't except to get a raise... I worked for a number of years and only saw my hourly rate go up $0.50 ... even with a promotion and increases in min. wage. Benefits for full time do not include Dental.

Pros

Thinking outside the box, vocalizing your opinions and suggestions are strongly encouraged. Always looking for ways to innovate and supportive of employees at all levels. Encourage managers to run their stores like they own, a happy place overall. They promote from within wherever possible, and never set up you to fail

Cons

Pay could be better, benefits as well.
