Pros

High Pay Good Discounts Free First Piercing

Cons

I’ve worked for plenty of corporations but none as bad as this. They make so many false promises of promotions and insanely stupid rules. This company is run by a lawyer. It FEELS like it. Not only do they treat their piercers like crap (which are the backbone of the company), FOH gets abused too. I missed so many breaks. I endlessly covered shifts and even opened when the SM forgot to schedule an opener. They told me they couldn’t promote me for 6 months and would hire externally. Cool? So I asked for at least full time since I was working the hours for it and just wanted the benefits. “We don’t currently have another full time FOH position open but we’ll let you know as soon as one opens.” I got sick and was pressured to come in due to THEIR under-hiring tactics. This was the last straw for me. I resigned and 8 hours after, I saw a job posting for my position except it was full time. PETTIEST, GREEDIEST, AND WORST COMPANY EVER. Oh, and that piercing you got from them? Probably botched since they RUSH their piercers to make an extra buck. Do NOT work here.

Good Pay, Toxic Community

Pros

Day to day In-studio is pretty easy for the pay. Pay is amazing for the industry. It’s what keeps you there. They basically pay you to stay and put up with their ish. If this job paid $15/hour, turnover would be 5x higher. You get to interact with HQ and see how a company is run which is cool. I learned a lot at this job that I don’t think I could have learned so quickly elsewhere - (kind of like when they throw a kid in the water to teach them to how to swim…)

Cons

HR and HQ are a joke. Working here reminds me of when they say “don’t meet your hero.” I thought this company was cool at first, but then I worked for them and peeked behind the curtain. Not inclusive like they say they are. Racism is tolerated, borderline Sexual Harassment, Verbal Abuse, and more were reported and absolutely nothing happened. “Zero tolerance” policy is a joke. The Queer community at Studs are frontline tokens and nothing more. Diversity within HQ is lacking and we all see it. There’s an uncomfortable hierarchy, too. In my experience, I’ve seen top talent leave the company due to HQs allowance of insubordination, lack of safely measures (for both clients and staff) and pure chaos (lack of formal FOH training). Piercers are treated differently than FOH. I’ll leave that there too. Growth is limited if you don’t live in NY. Overall, I’d explore your options. Know your worth. Are you okay wearing the Golden handcuffs at the expense of your mental health, work life balance, and potential safety? Who knows, maybe you’ll work here and your experience will be different—maybe things have changed by now. Best of luck, and remember, you are Kenough.

Pros

Pay is good benefits are decent (once anyone takes the time to explain how to use them) You meet some really cool people (clients and employees) Snacks provided Not as bad as the worst job you've ever had

Cons

The pay doesn't vary by region, so while employees in places like Wisconsin or Illinois are living it up on a very comfortable living wage, expensive coastal states like CA, MA, even their home base of NYC are pinching their checks to pay rent. No one ever gets a raise, At all. Worked there 4 years? Well someone only with the company 8 months will make the same amount of money as you. Ever since they received Series B funding the word of the investors matters more than any of the employees on the ground actually making them their money, constant policy changes that sacrifice the employee experience so they can keep opening stores that are never properly staffed. This year alone everyone's wages were cut as well as the amount of hours you get when you're full-time. PTO was cut and how it's accrued was completely changed, no more wellness days for store employees but HQ still gets them, they're closed weekends, holidays, hell they don't even have to clock in, but the rest of staff is subjugated to a time and attendance policy. You will only get 56 hours of sick time for the entire year (9 whole days-3% of how much we're expected to work in a year), if you need to go on medical leave, you don't get the pay for three weeks, Your schedule will be man handled by several different people at all times and then they wont tell you they changed things. You will be expected to complete the responsibilities of three people with no extra pay and you'd better be chipper about it, They will violate their own rules and risk the safety of employees because it's just easier to understaff their store in the evening than pay people to stay. Tone policing of POC left and right like they get brownie points to do it. There is absolutely no constructive discipline system, even if they agree you should not have been given a write up, warning, etc, they will not take it back. People can have documented sexual harassment claims, abuse of power and position, discrimination, etc and keep their jobs, but if you have the audacity to speak up about the mess they're running they'll use any policy they want to let you go. Zero ability to move upwards in the company, MAYBE you can go from a sales associate to a supervisor. They also love a store with little to no access to a clean and working restroom, don't have any bladder or digestion issues if you wanna work here, or any chronic health or pain issues. or be a minority cuz you're there for their DEIB numbers and nothing else. They. do. not. care. about. YOU.
