I have been working at Sanlam full-time

    Pros

    - Reasonable pay - Progression in some areas - Friendly people - Encouraged to take exams relevant to role

    Cons

    - On the job training not good overall. Generally pick things up as you go. - Not as flexible as other companies around working from home, although could change now that management can see this does not affect productivity. In fact staff are more likely to put in more hours as saving time with no commute.

I have been working at Sanlam full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Because senior managers are so incompetent, one can get away with doing the bare minimum. It’s an easy life if you play the game.

    Cons

Mediocre reward package. Awful culture. Serious lack of quality in senior leadership roles. Muddled strategic thinking. Buying offices, closing offices, hiring people, letting people go. Deteriorating client service. Don’t mention IT support. When I speak to my colleagues in different departments and locations I get a sense of frustration, despair and resignation. This clearly translates into a diminished client experience and, ultimately, both staff and clients leaving.

    Pros

Few nice people who work there. Can be used as a stepping stone to further your career. Many YES people

    Cons

Spineless and Inept management team who live in a bubble where they think they are actually "The best" Laughable and morally bankrupt HR department. North Korea has better IT systems and CULTURE for sure!! Lacks DIVERSITY big time on all scales for example only women in HR and the one guy they had a few years ago didn't stand a chance, barely did 2 months.

I have been working at Sanlam full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people are the best, they help if they can.

    Cons

Higher management don’t really know what they’re doing, they don’t consult the people that actually have to do the work and then wonder why things have gone wrong

I have been working at Sanlam full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

People are generally nice and hard working

    Cons

The title says it all. Decent people are let down by mgt. culture across the business is poor, but particularly bad a senior mgt level - they are a team focused on the short term and individual egos instead of the long term health of the business (and its people!) culture survey (presented only once) illustrates the short term / quick win style of managers.

Thank you for your comments. Our culture survey has been a great opportunity to elicit feedback from our business and we are sorry that you have not been involved in the several follow up sessions, or seen the communication that has been ongoing throughout the business. We would be happy to discuss further should you wish to be part of any of the teams involved in working with our results.

"ots of opportunity to make a difference in a corporate company (rare to come by!!)"

I have been working at Sanlam full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Having the ability to make a difference for our clients and their future. The organisation is going through change but to improve the way in which we serve our clients. It is an exciting time to join the organisation to be able to share your opinion and the ability to make a real difference, for a corporate company this is rare to find. The Executive team are always willing to listen to new ways of 'doing things' and take on board feedback as to how we as a business can continue to keep striding forward. Across the organisation the majority are all excited by the changes being made, which is shown by the passion to achieve and working collaboratively to get there. These individuals make all the difference to work with and encourage each other to be the best. It is disappointing to read some of the reviews as I don't believe it to be the majority view and poorly reflects an organisation that is great to work for, makes you feel empowered, trusted, believed in and supported.

    Cons

The minority, but you can't win over the hearts and minds of everyone. A few individuals being negative isn't out of the ordinary for any organisation.
