Pros

Fairly relaxed atmosphere, flexible working, vibrant environment, many good colleagues, somewhat familial culture, generous holiday entitlement

Cons

Low pay, poor pension scheme, cliques, office politics, bullying, poor management, lack of consideration for staff, little performance management, no appreciation for good work done, overly critical of mistakes, outdated and convoluted systems, no action taken against poor performance or unacceptable behaviour, many good staff bullied out the door.

Pros

Great individuals supported and some great work colleagues

Cons

Registered manager has absolutely no people skills, always short staffed, physical behaviour…..but ‘only a hair pull’ as management would say! Absolutely nothing is confidential within the management team!

Pros

The people supported. Get to meet lots of new and interesting people. Permission to use own initiative and think up creative and fun things to do - you're kept busy! Encouraged to help people work on their skills and achieve their goals. Big impact on the lives of the people you look after - job satisfaction. Relationships. Lots of training. Get to work as part of a big team. Great for sociable people who like trying new things and are confident.

Cons

Is a lot of responsibility - giving medication, following guidelines, paperwork, updating paperwork, risk assessing. All part and parcel of any social care provider but not for everyone. Can be challenging so need to be patient and understanding. Some people come into the job for the wrong reasons. If you cant put the person you're supportings needs before your own then it isnt the job for you.
