Heed the warnings in the negative reviews!
Pros
Shipmonk is a good place for someone new to the workforce to get some experience, but nothing more. The healthcare and 401K benefits are pretty standard. The coworkers are great, and it’s easy to connect with them as you’re all going through the same thing as other reviews have stated.
Cons
I don’t even know where to start. I have seen their recent recruiting efforts and job postings so it is important to call out how misrepresentative they are. You’ll see mentions of countless attractive amenities, and even a dog friendly workplace. However, for any jobs in the customer experience department, these are not available anymore as they have moved customer experience to a separate building in FL. They have also never been available for other warehouse locations. But this is probably the least of my concerns. Sometime in October the HR department attempted to cover up negative reviews by spamming positive reviews here that you will see. All negative reviews from the CX department are legitimate and can be corroborated. The work environment is incredibly toxic and the new management that joined earlier this year, who mostly came together from a different company, have effectively ruined the culture which is extremely disappointing. Upper management has been caught on multiple occasions speaking poorly about employees in nonconstructive ways. They work hand-in-hand with the HR department to intimidate and get rid of any employees who don’t pretend to completely agree with everything they say and do. This year I have seen some of the most incredible employees be removed from their jobs. Employees are walked out in front of the whole office upon termination in a very public way. I used to be proud to work for this company and excited to get to come to work every day. For quite a while I really did love my job. Unfortunately it has been ruined by new management and the HR team (who recently became known as “People and Culture” as in affront to make them seem more positive). They have attempted to do meetings with employees this year to see how they can make it a better workplace and listen to our complaints, which seems nice at face value and I was actually hopeful about. However, the meetings take place in front of and around management so you can never truly say what you want to say safely. Additionally, members of HR were visibly appearing either annoyed or disinterested during these meetings. I’ve officially lost hope in ShipMonk ever feeling like the good old days. It’s incredibly sad to have witnessed the downfall of what a great workplace this used to be.
