Pros

Some good folks Product is strong and has potential but localisation approach and pricing stifles growth

Cons

Poor culture and leadership with co-founder making all the decisions with little trust or respect for experienced members Failed attempt to put in a capable senior mgt team due to trust and control issues of the founder, who has a particularly poor style of leadership, management and communication All of which stifles growth and results in higher than normal staff turnover Several examples of abusive communication from the CEO sited, suggesting deeper personality issues

We’re happy you feel we have a strong product and hired good people. Our hiring process is constantly improving and we still have a lot of work to do. Please bear in mind we have existed in London for just over a year and have more than doubled in size in this time. We have learnt a lot in this rapid growth and expect to continue to do so. We’re very disappointed and sorry you’ve perceived the working environment to be so negative. We have a very open and flat structure, where anyone can speak to the Co-Founders in a very open and honest way. We do not treat junior and senior staff differently - perhaps this style of working is not for everyone. However, for us, at this stage of our growth, we expect everyone to contribute in a positive and impactful way - including the CEO! :) …. And we actually feel the CEO and CTO (the Co-Founders) lead by example. However, please do not take this as us being dismissive of your feedback. The Co-Founders have taken the feedback to heart and asked that we conduct a pulse survey to ensure they gain a true sense of their impact. We plan to implement this and share the feedback with the whole company before the end of the year.

Pros

Intelligent people Young crowd with diverse backgrounds Good office and location The beer only ran out maybe twice in my time there Decent pay (although very steep learning curve) UK product a good work in progress Good for sales/tech/startup/consulting experience

Cons

Sales is a complete mess in the UK office; they don't know how to position the product and expect a change in strategy every 2 months. Product doesn't cover the same range of services as other legacy competitors so not applicable to every firm in the industry currently and a tough sell more often than not. If you're in the company for more than 6 months you're probably one of the longest lasting people there. When people get told to leave they disappear in pretty ominous fashion- regardless of how long you've been there. They flick the sales commission switch on and off when they feel like it. Progression is difficult and unstructured unlike the vast majority of other sales jobs at SaaS startups (hint).

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. One thing we are very clear on when communicating with candidates, regardless of role is that we are very much a work in progress. We are not yet in a phase where everything is set up and ready to go. We are in the teething phase, where we are trying to simultaneously build and grow. This is why we look for entrepreneurial mindsets. On top of all this we’ve had to manage the impact of Covid and switch gears for some teams in order to do so, and also work more remotely than we ever have before. This has required major changes, which considering we weren’t prepared for, we feel we have managed relatively well. This, however, does not mean we could not do better, and so we have shared this feedback with appropriate parties. We are working hard and investing a lot into the sales organisation. This can be seen in the form of management, training, increased targeted campaigns, etc. However, we can only do so much, we then leave it to work with us in achieving as much as possible and carve out opportunities to grow. We have many success stories demonstrating this.

Pros

Some of the team are great

Cons

Terrible communication and a CEO that talks a talk in public but is monstrous with his style and treatment of people behind closed doors. Couldn’t wait to get out of there

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your experience at Silverfin. We appreciate the feedback, and respect your perspective. Culture, communication and collaboration are elements we pride ourselves on. Aside from our company-wide monthly business updates, the UK team have a weekly All Hands meeting to keep teams sharing and looking for ways to further collaborate. We have a highly communicative and collaborative team, even more so during this time. We have two CEOs, both are open and approachable and promoters of creating a positive, dynamic and challenging work environment. Nevertheless, both are very data and results-orientated, and try to get the best out of everyone - regardless of role and level.
