Pros

The work is varied and interesting, particularly within enforcement and investigations. Very flexible working arrangements, office attendance may move to two days per week, but this is still far more flexible than many comparable sectors. Friendly colleagues and a people-focused organisation with strong welfare support, good staff retention, and opportunities for both lateral progression and promotion. The Birmingham head office at Brindleyplace is modern, clean, and well maintained, with great facilities, varied working spaces, good refreshments, and attentive facilities staff. Excellent location close to train stations.

Cons

Workloads can be high in enforcement areas, particularly with the recent spike in reports, although this is being recognised and addressed by the new CEO. Further, the flexibility helps balance this. Some departments have pockets of poor culture linked to favouritism and inconsistent management, and decision-making can sometimes feel overly reactive to risk. More external training and professional accreditation opportunities would also be beneficial.
