Pros

My supervisors were always kind and understanding (I know this isn’t the case for every department though). They wanted to see me succeed and supported me when I needed it. I also got a lot of support from my peers.

Cons

It’s a decent nonprofit but certainly not without its flaws. I completely agree with whoever said Springwell is most concerned with being “the best” - it absolutely drives staff to the brink. Springwell micromanages its employees. There is a gigantic handbook you get at the time of hire that goes as far as defining what flip flops are and what kind of celebration you get when you leave - but I had cash stolen out of my wallet once and not only was there no theft policy instituted, but HR also never followed up on the incident, so that was great. All employees are employees at will, meaning they can fire you at any time for any reason or for no reason at all. They do this ALL the time. People just disappear then two weeks later you’re informed that they’ve left and were “wished good luck in future endeavors.” CEO has an open door policy but is never in her office and is totally unapproachable. Employees can be unfriendly, especially about the kitchen - I was once verbally berated by another employee for using a paper plate (they clearly went to HR because an agency-wide email about use of paper plates was sent out two days later - yet still my complaint of theft was never followed up on) and passive aggressive signs about cleaning are hung up all over the kitchen. I’ve never before worked at a company where so many people just stare at you or quickly look down at the floor or right past you when you smile at them in the hallway. It’s a very odd culture there and I’m not sorry I left.
