Pros

I'm not sure there were many. Pay was ok, coworkers were mostly pleasant.

Cons

The management has successfully pushed out 10+ people from a small department over a short period of time. Micromanaging, insulting, high stress work environment. Living in fear of being chewed out almost every day.

Some Do Great, Others Don't

Pros

There are a lot of great people who work for St. Croix County. Many of the staff are dedicated and go above and beyond to help clients. People show a lot of creative thinking to bridge the gap with the lack of services the State of WI provides for multiple programs. The benefits were great in the beginning. About 4 years ago, they did a wage review and a lot of people got bumps in salary. Well, that money had to come from somewhere and slowing they are chipping away at the healthcare coverage. No more HSA, $1500 deductible (up from $400), larger co-pays, etc. Still very good coverage overall. The pay is very good; however, with the cost of the health insurance, raises don't feel like much. Generous PTO. Because the resources in SCC are larger than surrounding counties, there are a lot of great opportunities to work in a lot of different capacities.

Cons

Depending on where you work, the management can be very aggressive and inconsistent. I experienced borderline harassment from my supervisor. Expectations would be changed on a dime. Superiors would outright deny that they had provided a direction for the employees to follow. People are terrified of their immediate supervisors. Person-centered is a mantra there. Professionally, I feel it is taken to the extreme, so much so that clinicians are not always allowed to be clinicians. There is little grace given to the staff with difficult clients and situations. When people seek support, they are often accused of not being client-centered enough, lack the ability to perform self-care or, in my case, be told that I create my own trauma. I felt insulted most days of the week regarding feedback provided to me.
