Overall a forward thinking organization that has the best interests of the community at heart. Libraries are in the public service business and if someone is passionate about helping, it's a good solid - and interesting place to work. Generally, co-workers are great. Benefits are good.
Cons
The pace of change can be rapid - policies, procedures, new programs and initiatives. It's good to have an open mind about new things.
I have worked many places where the leadership’s ethical standards could be questioned. Obviously leadership at any organization cannot be transparent to everyone about everything all the time but I go to work every day knowing that the people on the leadership team are genuinely good people with the best of intentions for the organization, the employees, and the community as a whole.
Cons
Long-standing history with all of the employees. Many employees have been with SJCPL a very long time and have worked in many different capacities which means that everyone has worked with or for everyone else which can create interesting dynamics.
