Falling apart

Pros

- Interesting product - Remote

Cons

The company is falling apart. Everybody is being fired without reason or they fear to be fired. Churn is crazy high at this moment, almost entire teams left in some cases and in others, almost entire teams were fired. Upper management got really scared of market conditions and lost their minds (super weird). I mean, even here on Glassdoor you can see it happening, in the replies the upper management puts the blame on the bad reviewers instead of saying that they intend to improve, like they have no responsibility over it. They create fake reviews and attack the bad reviewers (and it is getting worse, who would have guessed). It was not always like this, to be fair, it used to be just fine. But things changed for much, much worse and very fast.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feedback with us. At Stream, we're committed to transparency and open communication about our path and strategy for success. We are fortunate to have a solid runway and are actively working towards profitability in the foreseeable future. While it's never easy to part ways with individuals from our team, we believe in being transparent about the reasons behind such decisions. In cases where individuals were let go, clear reasons were communicated, along with potential improvement opportunities. Despite providing remote work flexibility, we believe it's important to maintain fairness for all team members, and unfortunately, there are instances where some individuals do not meet expectations. However, we ensure that those affected are provided with a generous severance package and agree with the decision to part ways. Hiring is indeed a challenging process, and we are dedicated to setting up every team member for success. We prioritize a culture of continuous improvement, learning from our mistakes, listening to feedback, and executing clear action plans to enhance our processes and practices. It's important to emphasize that all positive reviews about Stream are genuine, and we have never engaged in the writing of fake reviews or coerced anyone to do so. We're proud that 91% of Stream employees stated in our last Engagement Survey that they are proud to work here, which we see as a significant achievement. While we regret that your experience did not align with that sentiment, we sincerely hope that you find a company where you feel fulfilled and appreciated. Thank you once again for your feedback, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Pros

Nothing good to say about Stream other than its in a good location, so you can hopefully find a job at another tech company close by.

Cons

Where to even start….if you are considering working for Stream please run the other way as fast as you can. Every other bad review on here is true so I will just add my experience to the list. This company is a total mess. The CEO has somehow managed to take something that was good, or even great, and turn it into a steaming pile. It’s a fun place to work because they act like your friend and then will fire you without cause on any given Monday. You will spend your entire tenure here in a state of constant worry. CEO is a coward who will stab you in the back and I wouldn’t say that without living through many many examples. You will have no warning, no meetings, no anything, you will simply be fired. Or maybe they will let you stay! But everyone around you will be fired and you will be left with no guidance and set up to fail. The mind games they play instead of simply being transparent with employees is incredible. Even if you were to look past the extremely toxic work environment, the structure of the company is terrible as well. You will never have solid management or a team because they have no idea what they are doing. How this company has stayed afloat is mind boggling. It’s laughable that someone could take something as benign as Chat and Feeds SDK’s and make it into this hell on earth. So unless you have an extreme passion to work in fear and create mediocre SDK products you should run the other way to literally any other tech company in Boulder because I can promise it will be better than Stream. P.S. the only reason you dont see more reviews on here is because when they do fire you, they give you a b.s. severance that restricts you from leaving a review such as this one.

Tommaso the team and I work extremely hard to ensure our company and team is set up for success. Very few people have been fired. We ask our managers to offer training and mentorship before making a change. Our people team also trains our managers on making sure that performance feedback is shared regularly. As a last resort, when things don’t work out we offer severance. We try very hard to be transparent so people know what their role will be like before joining Stream. I want to see people join Stream and grow in their careers. Many have seen rapid growth and it's upsetting when it doesn’t work out. Apologies that you didn’t have a good experience at Stream. I’m happy to take a call with you and talk about what we can improve. One of our engineering directors recently fired an engineer. The engineering manager is closer to this evaluation and it's not something I can effectively comment on. From what I can tell the engineering director followed our best practices and recommendations and this review was written as revenge against their performance assessment. None of my direct reports have recently been fired, so I was surprised to read the claims in this review.

Pros

The employees (your colleagues) are great

Cons

- The company is no longer remote and therefore is less flexible. - Loads of benefits have been removed while pay stay the same. - Leadership is horrible. Lacks basic understanding on how to run a company, how to facilitate growth and retain employees or customers for that matter. - The entire infrastructure is a complete mess and there is no interest in fixing any of it. - Decisions are made based on gut feelings without any factual reasons to back anything up. - 0 company strategy. - Performance reviews are there but they don't mean anything. Great performance can be rewarded with a termination of contract. - Diversity is a joke. - Positions that are essential for future growth never get backfilled because leadership doesn't necessarily know what they are.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we’re sorry to hear that you didn’t fully enjoy your experience at Stream. We have introduced a hybrid work policy to make our cooperation more efficient, while remaining flexible, with employees being able to work from home two days a week and to apply for fully remote work if needed. As we’d like our offices to be a place where people want to be, this change was implemented together with improved in-office benefits, such as catered lunches, bi-weekly massages, and full commute coverage. Overall, Stream is committed to providing a competitive benefits package and to taking the best possible care of our team. Like any tech company out there, Stream has had to adjust to the market crisis, which resulted in certain limitations. That being said, we endeavor to keep our benefits competitive, including but not limited to equity, a fitness stipend, a learning and development budget, commute coverage, a pension/401K contribution, above-average paid time off, and, in the US, a very competitive healthcare package. We continuously work on improving our performance review process, and we train our managers to provide regular and transparent feedback to their team members (and vice versa). While we have room for improvement in different areas, it’s crucial for us to ensure that to ensure that feedback is communicated regularly and openly. We apologize if that was not your experience. We do our best to share all the information about key metrics, wins and losses, plans, and strategies of the company in a transparent manner throughout company-wide communication (monthly all-hands meetings, weekly team updates, quarterly goal setting, etc.). The course of action that we took has not only helped us navigate challenging market conditions but also enabled us to achieve a market-leading position and potential profitability in 2024. We're incredibly proud of our team and are committed to recognizing and celebrating their contributions to our success. Thank you for your contributions to Stream, and we wish you all the best in your current role.
