Avoid this immoral and despicable company, you will hate it

Pros

Company respects work/life balance and is understanding when life happens.

Cons

CTO Dave Geurts often asks inappropriate questions about personal life, requires participation in embarrassing "team building activities" that include asking employees about their sex life, and asking employees to remove shirt and walk down the hall topless as a "prank". He frequently gossips about other employees behind their back and introduces drama into the workplace, including private HR matters, and holds employees disciplinary meetings in a public forum. He has even threatened to shoot previous employees. CEO Tim Ballantyne openly talks down to employees. He takes no responsibility for the company and frequently looks for scapegoats when asked why the company is underperforming. He ignores all PTO and reimbursement requests, and deceives employees for his own gain. His word means nothing. The entire company lacks leadership as management has no clear vision or goal. Stay way from this evil company and those who run it.

We're very disappointed to see anyone had a negative experience at Suralink. At Suralink, we work hard to treat employees fairly and with respect—not to mention we fully comply with all employment laws (PTO and reimbursements included!). While we believe these claims are completely unfounded, we also believe that people perceive experiences differently and we respect their right to feel however they choose about those experiences. That being said, we will never tolerate discriminatory, violent, or inappropriate behavior. We will always strive to be a company where tolerance, inclusivity, and respect are the core principals upon which we work and live. Pros

Opportunity for technical initiatives: There were opportunities to engage in technical projects. A colleague had the chance to develop and implement innovative solutions, which brought enhanced efficiency to the role.

Cons

Lack of leadership support: The team often felt undervalued, with limited involvement from higher-ups and no designated lead. This had a significant impact on team morale and productivity. Administrative challenges: There were instances of administrative issues, such as inaccuracies in payroll calculations. While seemingly minor, it raised concerns about the company's attention to detail. Task management concerns: There were situations where colleagues did not perform up to expectations without any notice or intervention from management. This placed an undue burden on the rest of the team, resulting in late work shifts during peak periods. Limited growth opportunities: There was a noticeable lack of opportunities to showcase our abilities and grow within the team. Promised opportunities, like presenting our framework in team demonstrations, failed to materialize. Problem-solving gaps: When a team member encountered technical issues preventing access to the staging environment, the DevOps team did not take proactive steps to resolve the problem. I had to find a personal VPN solution to ensure their continued work, despite it being the DevOps team's responsibility to address such issues during load testing. It was also their request to test. The team member's local ISP had blocked their traffic, necessitating the VPN. Constructive feedback: I received feedback on minor personal matters, such as distractions caused by background items during video calls. Although seemingly insignificant, it felt out of proportion when compared to professional feedback. Office dynamics: Despite the company's small size, office politics had a noticeable impact on collaboration and the overall work environment. One specific team member had regular one-on-one meetings with the CTO, while the rest of the team did not have similar opportunities. This imbalance in communication and transparency created unease, and confusion, and hindered effective collaboration. Important information was not shared equally or in a timely manner, leading to disruptions in team dynamics. Unspoken expectations: There were unspoken expectations for team members to be available and work late into the night, often past 3 AM. This disregard for work-life balance was never openly discussed but created an underlying pressure within the team. Lack of enthusiasm: The team exhibited a lack of engagement and enthusiasm, creating an atmosphere where it seemed like there was little passion for the work being done. Challenges with colleagues: Some colleagues, despite limited experience, displayed inflated egos and were resistant to learning. They often tried to avoid their responsibilities. I made the decision to leave my previous company, enticed by the promise of a more fulfilling role, only to find that it did not live up to my expectations. This realization prompts reflection on the decisions made during that period. Rapidly Emerging Issues: All of the above concerns and issues arose within an unusually short period of six months. This rapid accumulation of problems is cause for concern and raises questions about the company's operational and managerial effectiveness. The lack of leadership support, mismanagement, limited growth opportunities, administrative errors, unaddressed technical challenges, disproportionate feedback, office politics, unspoken expectations, indifference, and uncooperative colleagues collectively portrayed a disappointing picture of the company. The convergence of these factors within such a brief timeframe has been profoundly disillusioning and prompts critical evaluation of the company's management and organizational culture.
