Great books, confusing management

Pros

Taschen books forever set the standard of what an excellent book should be like. Great fun working with the books. People are great too (but underappreciated).

Cons

Unlike the books, management is unpredictable, lacking logic and common sense, and is not supporting of its own people whilst they are working towards targets. Many opportunities have been lost just because the management has changed its mind overnight. Zero career opportunities because the structure is too horizontal (you can easily find yourself second in line to Benedikt Taschen - where is it to grow?) Everyone is scared of Benedikt Taschen, his mood swings, and preferential treatments.

Pros

Great books and products. Great client relationships, got to meet super interesting people from around the world who all share the same passion for art books. Salary is good compared to other retail companies. Nice working environment and team.

Cons

Sometimes requires heavy lifting, but it is part of the job and essential for stock deliveries. Sometimes there can be long hours but usually ok.

Great product, shame the company is run by fear and blame

Pros

The books are great and when everything is good, it's good. There are some lovely people there as well.

Cons

The fear that runs through the company is at every level. When Mr Taschen is in a bad mood the whole company knows it. People are summoned across the world to meet with him to explain their actions, and orders are barked via email. The result is that everyone is quick to point the blame at someone else, and defend their own position. This leads to a poisonous atmosphere.
