TELUS acquisition ruined this company

Pros

Flexible work arrangements for most jobs.

Cons

The current CTO doesn't own anything except wins. All problems are "caused by people that came before him." Bad decisions being made on staffing, technology, and more. He doesn't like being challenged and doesn't take well to difficult questions. Tenured staff leaving in droves (Thad is no longer the CEO, he left over half a year ago), and for good reason. People that have been with the company 10, 15, 20 years - leaders that we all loved and respected, are gone or on their way out. Telus acquired TKXS about a year after the merger of XS and Technekes and stopped supporting and providing resources for integrations efforts. New management is now under the perception that TKXS was broken before being acquired when the fact is that the Telus acquisition is what broke it. They set up TKXS for failure. Every decision being made is driven by the bottom line. The mediocre/poor comp, training, culture budgets - the entire benefits system Telus has setup seems designed to drive out more expensive, knowledgeable employees and bring in newer talent that's willing to work harder for less money. TKXS used to be about doing right by employees and partners, the new Telus-owned TKXS is 100% about EBITDA/profitability.

Pros

Friendly people and a nice building.

Cons

TKXS is the result of a merger between two fairly mediocre companies in the last year. The companies both had significant organizational issues and the merger is not working well at all. One company had poor management and the other seemingly had none - not the recipe for a successful merged org. I worked on a large project that was chaotic and poorly planned and organized. It even featured a questionable and rather exotic technical architecture choice. All of that was on the most important project in the collective company's history. People were grinding themselves into a pulp to get the thing done. Dismal. The technical side of the organization's management are finger pointers who are crisis-driven, meaning they evade problems until they explode. They manage up, not down, and are freaked out by honesty. Management seems to lack even a basic awareness of what people underneath them are doing (at least in Charlotte). Work somewhere else. Every organization has issues, but this was rather extreme and it was obvious within the first few days.

Thank you for %E2%80%9CSpeaking Out%E2%80%9D (a TKXS value) and sorry to hear that you were unhappy here. It sounds like you were involved in the %E2%80%9Ccrunch time%E2%80%9D of your project during your short tenure here. The vast majority of contractors at TKXS preserver and transition to full-time employees ultimately enjoying a more balanced project cycle experience. It sounds like you%E2%80%99ve moved on and we%E2%80%99ve both had the opportunity to learn the importance of a thorough interviewing process. TKXS%E2%80%99 growth has been extraordinary and that creates stress as well as opportunity. We truly believe in helping all our partners reach their potential. TKXS has experienced unprecedented growth over the past two years; first with the merger of XSInc and Technekes and more recently, the acquisition of TKXS by TELUS. The opportunity for personal and career growth is similarly unprecedented with recent additional acquisitions supporting our global expansion strategy. Similarly, diversity is a necessary and desirable outcome of such growth. We continually seek individuals that can flourish in such a changing environment and are confident in both our company and employee prospects for success. I'd be happy to discuss your perspective on this and see if we can learn more about your thoughts. Fulton Breen TKXS
