Amazing people in a poorly managed studio

      Pros

      - The people on my team were amazing, you'll make great friends. - Overtime pay is always appreciated (and there will be plenty of overtime!) - Because of the game template format, this is one of the most "stable" studios in the country. - You get to work with some cool IP. - Nice, modern studio. (Wilmslow) - Good place to start working in the industry; Lego characters are fun to work on at first and there are plenty of people who will guide and advice you. - Being a Warner Bros studio, they tend to offer many benefits, parties etc.

      Cons

      - Creatively stifling, don't stick around too long if you want variety in life. - Typical videogame crunch. Overtime isn't forced but it's encouraged by higher ups. - Tight timelines as the studio needs to churn out titles fast. - Working on so many IP's leads to a distressing number of last minute changes unfortunately. - The pay is just okay. - Boring location. - A juggernaut game factory that is basically stagnant. If you want to make career progress, it's better to hop around and use Tt as a place to build experience.

      Stable, but stagnant

      Pros

      - Lots of perks - Flexitime and paid overtime - Very geek-oriented culture - Friendly and talented people to work with - Chances are you'll work on a bunch of games during your time here, as the company typically aims to release 1-3 a year - All sorts of social events all year around (before Covid ruined the party) - Very stable, mainly because the IPs being worked on just print money

      Cons

      - Crunch is still a very real thing, unfortunately - A lot of stagnancy, especially technical - things change very slowly, mainly because working on so many games at once makes it difficult, but also because there's little reason to, as the games being made always reliably make a profit - Very little progression or growth for individuals

      Directionless, creativeless and long hours

      Pros

Easy place to start in the industry.

      Cons

Long hours of hard work; expected to work 12hr days, weekends, bank holidays. I know programmers who had around 200hrs of overtime. Frequent crashes with the engine make you feel like you banging your head against the wall. At one point saving would crash the engine. Leads and Seniors tend to lack understanding of fundamentals of both games design, and the games industry in general - including a low expectation of their own audience. Games tend to focus on honoring the IP rather than building a solid game first and applying an IP to it. This is company that is solely built on making money and sucking the passion out of its staff. For the final year of my work there around 10-20 people were leaving every month.
