Underrated Company With Lots Of Potential & Talent

Pros

From a product perspective, TelTech is extremely underrated. This company has come up with not just one big product, but four big products. Most companies are lucky if they can make one product that succeeds and truly finds a great product/market fit, but TelTech has done it four times now. Not only that, but the company has figured out how to monetize apps, in order to build a profitable company off of mobile apps to fund future projects, so you don't have to worry about getting outside funding, investors or anything like that in order to keep the company running. It's extremely exciting and rewarding to be a part of on the product side and to see your app used by hundreds of thousands of (paying) users. You're directly gaining valuable experience and helping to grow the company and user base with your contributions, which again, feels really rewarding. What I'm trying to say, is you won't be wasting your time on building a lame product that no one will use. You will be able to show off to your friends or to future employers what you worked on. You will also probably get to work across a few areas over time, as the company is growing and needs can change, so you will likely see great professional growth from yourself as well. People really care about the products, the technologies and also the culture at TelTech, so there is always a great team to work with, that you will likely get along very well with, if you are able join the company. People on the teams are driven, take risks but learn from mistakes, and usually are exceptionally good at what they do while being passionate about their craft. TelTech is not the minor leagues. You may not have heard of them, but you likely will one day, as I see something really special happening here. I wouldn't bet against the company. Oh and the food and office are pretty great too.

Cons

There's little to complain about. If someone doesn't work out, it's usually because you either sink or swim here. But companies have to really work like that or the culture will go downhill. Initiatives and projects can change quickly, if new things come up, but that's also something companies need to do at times to stay nimble and focus on what really will make an impact. Sometimes the company feels understaffed because we have so much we want to work on and see done, but things are getting better. South Amboy may not be the most exciting city, but it works. Maybe there will be a New York City or Miami Beach office one day :)

Pros

They have incredible culture, if you survive long enough to see it all. When you visit, they really take care of you. Everyone met at the office is generally awesome.

Cons

This is how it goes down if you're not careful: Two month interview process. Weeks 1 and 2 of employment: On-boarding with meetings, getting familiar with products, give you task to work on in the process. Ask for a due date and told there isn't one. Week 3: Discuss goals you have for yourself (they didn't follow through), finish up on-boarding meetings (they didn't follow through). Submit project, get feedback, work on implementing feedback. Work on other tasks between waiting for feedback from overseas team. Have a laugh to yourself when you ask how they would approach a part of the task and one of the "lead" guys on the team gives you a lazy, hack solution that no developer worth their salt would implement. Yes, they even acknowledged it was both lazy and a hack. Week 4: Get flown out to headquarters for a week for all-expenses-paid holiday party. While there get praised, make you feel awesome, welcome you to the team - even give you a nice bonus. Take pictures with CEOs, get personally welcomed and praised by CEOs. Team takes you out for drinks, get you lots of great food, go to the movies. On Friday, discuss with team overseas about setting up a meeting, to which they agree, about getting a good process in place, setting up development structure, setting expectations and strategy for the team to succeed, etc. Prepare final touches on project for release. Finish project on Monday, day 28 of employment. Fire you on Tuesday with zero legitimate reasons, no warnings, no chance to grow and do things better, etc -- 29 days into employment. MOST companies have a 90-day evaluation period. So much for that with Teltech.
