Pros

Camaraderie in-office, hands-on experiences, opportunities to build resume outside of job description and earn promotion annually.

Long hours, sudden layoffs with ambiguous explanations, benefits changes, transparency.

The Hoffman Agency Response
2y
While obviously not poetry to our ears, we still appreciate the feedback. The decision to reduce our staff is not one we took lightly, but felt it was necessary at the time. I’m not exactly sure what you mean by benefit changes since the only change we made this year was to provide US employees with a $600 Wellness Fund. If it would be useful to talk, feel free to email me. Best, Lou

Not bad

Pros

Open communication with local GM, good colleagues, collaborative culture, respectable working hours for a PR agency

Cons

Less training options, agency wants to focus only on technology brands so might not be the best for those who want to deal with a wider breadth of clients

Pros

- Mostly good (capable, empathetic, kind) people at the working level - perfect for those with less experience as most colleagues are nurturing and willing to mentor and even share workload. - Quite diverse clients and opportunities for IMC projects that go beyond traditional PR. - Opportunity to gain experience in the industry (PR & tech) super quick, in agency environment. - Open communication and feedback system at working level.

Cons

- Stretched at every level from AE to SAM. Management seems to be rather tone-deaf to the pressures at working level. It's easy to brush it off as "just agency culture" but you lose good people due to high turnover rate. People are really only staying for the people. - Low pay for the hours and intensity demanded. Not sustainable for health & mental health. - Weird obsession with 'visibility' - those who play the game well / get in the good books of management climb much faster. - Can be a bit micro-manage-y. But good for fresh grads.

Pros

Great Management, and you'll learn everything you ever could about PR quickly. Teamwork is encouraged, and it's an environment built for those who love B2B tech

Cons

Can be really stressful. Events lead to long hours, but that's just PR in general. Not enough to live on in California.

Agency with great culture, invests in staff and steadily growing

Pros

In general, Hoffman is a place with great culture, work-life balance (or as good as it can be in an agency) and minimum office politics. The agency is in a state of transitioning from B2B tech PR roots to an integrated, IMC offering. This digital transformation is a trend that can be seen across the industry, but where Hoffman is trying is best to do right is through upskilling existing staff (i.e. not separating digital + PR teams and hiring "digital" folks but genuinely trying to teach existing PR employees). At the forefront of this IMC/ digital charge is the Head of Digital for APAC who started in the company about 2 years back. He comes with lots of experience and his PR background enables him to easily understand and communicate with other team members. The agency also gives lots of opportunities to work with teams in other markets, and sees the value in promoting healthy client-agency relationships (don’t think that many agencies can say the same).

Cons

Sometimes workloads aren’t distributed fairly across teams. The great culture can also sometimes be a double-edged sword – some people may take advantage of this. It still has the typical hustle and bustle of agency life, so expect the typical long hours and crunch time madness when working with tight deadlines/ new biz proposals
