    Great Time

Aug 18, 2020 - Graduate Quant Trader in London, England, England

    Pros

Provided with Breakfast and Lunch in the office. Fairly structured training provided through Tibra university. No dress code. It is a very meritocratic workplace, where if you do your work well, and are straight to the point you can strive. There seems to have been many changes in recent years to the way they work and it is showing through.

    Cons

London is currently a much smaller base than Australia. Would be nice to see growth here, allowing them to compete with some of the much larger players based in London. Hard work, however not unlike most jobs in the industry.

    Very Aussie

    Pros

There are a few guys who are just all-around brilliant to work with. Plenty of smart guys too. The Aussie attitude towards life can be great when things are going well.

    Cons

No culture of driving others to improve. Works fine when a big percentage of the guys are smart and driven. But when market is difficult it's not pleasant at all for the capable ones to drag a lot of mediocrity around. Bonus allocation has long been an issue, usually with guys who speak Australian English gets paid more than their fair share and smart guys from other countries storm out of the door. It might not be intentional but management has way too strong a tendency to favor their buddies in the office.

    Pros

Great environment. Super people. The underlying principles of sound investment should not alter from decade to decade, but the application of these principles must be adapted to significant changes in the financial mechanisms and climate.

    Cons

Most businesses change in character and quality over the years, sometimes for the better, perhaps more often for the worse. The investor need not watch his companies' performance like a hawk; but he should give it a good, hard look from time to time.

    good place to be

    Pros

    - salary market rate for my level + a bonus- i'm pretty happy with this period - no egos and no office politics like my last place + the work-life balance is really good- better than the IB i was at before! - good cross team links between traders, developers and support- lots of collaboration and cross-firm initiates - although only fairly new to the office i had an idea for something i wanted to implement and was encouraged by management to go for it

    Cons

    - haven’t had a chat about career progression yet - would like management to be closer to day-to-day work of people on the floor - some guys didn’t do too well in recent bonus rounds which has led to some bad taste around the office before they eventually left

    No bonuses

Oct 23, 2013 - Anonymous Employee in London, England, England

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    * Free massages on a Thursday

    Cons

    * No bonuses for the last 2 years. * Salaries are low (HR will try to justify this by claiming that they pay large bonuses every 6 months, please refer to the first bullet point...). * Only 1-2 traders in the company make money net of costs. The good traders that were around when the company made money have quit to join rivals, the ones that remain in their place don't really know what they're doing and don't make any money. * Claim to be tech focused, and probably believe that they are, but actually aren't. Lost their best technologists through poor compensation. Current tech leaders are not very good and don't have the respect of the majority of techs. * Management lack the technical knowledge required to succeed in the current environment. * Hiring policy for new traders is to hire anyone and see if they make money or not. In theory this isn't a bad strategy but in practice it suffers from adverse selection as only poor traders join due to the inferior technology and low salaries. As a result most new traders don't last beyond their probation period.

Excellent company to have worked for

May 24, 2014 - IT Position in London, England, England

    Pros

Tibra was an excellent company to work for in its best years (2009-2010). Still, it has an informal and friendly environment with several interesting benefits (a good free food canteen and fridge stuffed of any drinks; weekly massages).

    Cons

Very low morale of almost all members of staff, lack (or extremely not clear) vision for the future (i..e. how to make money?). The company is likely to suffer very strong downsize soon. The old mantra about bonus vs base salary doesn't work anymore (no growth means no bonus): base salary is below market standard and people eventually leave the company.

Loads of reasons to work at Tibra

Dec 2, 2012 - IT Position in London, England, England

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Loads of reasons to work at Tibra. Awesome colleagues, perks, nice environment, everybody is friendly

    Cons

Unfortunately training for new starters is hugely overlooked, and in most things the learning curve is very steep. "Veterans" in Tibra tend to ignore suggestions from peers/new comers. There is loads of ego that slows innovation. Top management does not listen to feedback from employees and think of employees as expendable assets
