      Laid Back Environment, but Gets Work Done

      Pros

      I've only been here two weeks, but I'm already loving the laid back environment. There is no micromanaging, and this creates an easy-going atmosphere that actually makes you want to work more. People are treated well, and compensation is very fair.

      Cons

      The work environment is somewhat dated. City Hall, the building where many employees work, has not aged particularly well.

      The department is in the middle of a true modernization push — data-driven decision making, improved technology, and leadership that isn’t afraid to question “the way we’ve always done it.” You’ll work on projects that actually affect public safety, not just shuffle paper. The team is professional, tight-knit, and has a strong sense of purpose.

      Cons

      Like most government work, change moves slower than logic sometimes. There’s a fair amount of legacy process to navigate, and cross-department communication can lag behind the ambition level.
