Pros

None.......the workplace is a hypocritical, unfriendly, back stabbing, mean spirited and cold place to work.

Cons

I finally got enough points to retire with a half assed pension which the idiots in uniform bargained away for more wage money. You will have everyone smiling at you and welcoming you because no one wants to stay so they suck you in to fill the holes in their numbers. You hear promises and offers but be prepared to kiss some big butt to get very little in return. There is a very pompous attitude amongst the management because they think their poop don't smell and most of them are in management because they cannot do the job. You are watched and critiqued by people who have never down the job and the stress levels are through the roof what with shift work, rude people calling in, bosses crapping on you and a general disrespect by members of the uniform side. There is a saying that uniform management polishes theirs boots and badges with the blood and sweat of useless civilians. You cannot talk your way out of anything if you make a mistake because you are prejudged and pre-condemned. And whatever you do, don't get sick, have a bad day, have a relative sicken or die, ask for help or even show any weakness because they will be all over you like vultures and scavengers. There is no reward or feeling of success and achievement in this job. Your motivation for working here has to be strictly monetary and you can't get a job at Walmart because job satisfaction is Job Zero here. I spent 25 years in this place and all I got was a the t-shirt telling me to get out. Once last thing.......there has to be something wrong with a place where people can tell you to the day when they can retire......when even new people know the final work day after a few months and where people count down the days like a prison term ending. I cannot count the number of people I found crying in the washroom and shouting in the lunchroom or going off during a smoke break outside, all because of the frustration of the way they are treated and the place is managed. Avoid this place like the plague......look to other police services and fire departments for dispatcher jobs but don't sign on here....you'll regret it till the day you can do what I finally did and that's walk away in relief.

Pros

There are many very good people that work for the TPS who have extraordinarily strong character and have a good heart and conscience. The job changes everyone though - it is unavoidable. The good stay good - but the job will inevitably steal some of the sparkle.

Cons

The near super-human efforts of so many good officers are constantly overshadowed by an impenetrable, antiquated dogma that erodes the moral and spirit of even the strongest men. This is a very right wing, military organization, and it is suffused with more arrogant bullies, top to bottom, than one would imagine possible. It purports itself to be proactive & forward-thinking, but do not be fooled as talk is cheap for PR. If you still think you want to work here, be prepared to close your eyes, turn your ears & shut your mouth. Do whatever they tell you. Well... except for the part where they tell you to be honest about somebody-did-something-wrong. I can guarantee you, they will not have your back if you tell the truth... nor will they have your back if you lie. Either way, you are on your own.
