Pros

Great technologists. Work with some of the best technologies with some very smart people. Very large customer footprint. With millions of users across the United States, they make websites that are dear to a large number of people. Somewhat flexible schedules, but in exchange they will ask you to take responsibility in off-hours.

Cons

Like most large publishers, they're still working at finding a sustainable business model. If you actually read one of their newspapers, you should be familiar with the fact that Tribune was bought out by an unscrupulous gang of investors, who may still yet be sued for fraud, and is just now exiting bankruptcy. Unknown what the outlook is for the company.

Pros

I was able to negotiate a lot of time off. I also was able to maintain a great work/life balance. The colleagues at my level were great when I started.

Cons

The industry, the management, and the culture of cronyism which ends up in management that are poor leaders. 1- The industry is clearly suffering. There are a lot of ideas, but very little productive action to stop the bleeding. 2- The management runs this huge company as if its a small company of 50 people. The structure of the company is so confusing you won't know what to work on, who to work with, or what is expected. The only people with meaningful work are "buddies" with the management that came in. 3-If you aren't buddies with upper management, its hard to advance or really feel at all safe in your job. You will see other clueless employees advance and remain at the company while truly talented and dedicated colleagues are laid off.
