I meant to do this some time ago, but never got around to it and then I met with another former employee who reminded me that it was my civic duty to warn all who inquire about the state of Upper Deck. So here you go.
I was told by several employees that the President demands employees constantly lie to vendors to avoid paying invoices. I believe this is due to the financial instability of the company. Not a healthy business model. Upper Deck relies on declining paper goods to generate revenue and uses archaic internal processes to manufacture their goods. This company is stagnant and has no vision for long term success.
Moral was always low when I was there, employees are grossly underpaid and most seem like they are ready to give up on life. The shameful President tries to justify the low salaries, which he acknowledges are very low, during the company town hall meetings stating that employees shouldn't work here to earn a good living, they should work here because it is a privilege. No one I worked with seemed to believe that.... There were a lot of sunken heads looking at the floor when you pass people in the halls.
The President is full of false bravado. I never saw him own up to the mistakes he consistently made with the direction of the company. On that note, I did see him blame employees, on a regular basis, for the lack of company income. He justified the previous comment by stating that employees were always late on projects and needed to work harder. This was conveyed at the mandatory company meetings. He is too immature, just my opinion, to be running a company. He openly uses profanity in the hallways and doesn't understand that berating employees in an open forum does not instill a level of pride in anyone. I am told that a lot of people leave specifically because of him.
