Pros

I honestly can not think of one good reason to work for this company. The only positives I gained from the experience of working for this organization are a general understanding of radio advertising and relationships with a few select individuals.

Cons

This organization has a bad reputation in the market which, will significantly impact your ability to earn a satisfactory income. The bad part is that the reputation is well deserved.

Pros

Monthly catered lunches with all the staff. Good company for entry level, recent grads to gain experience. Ability to work with talented and hard working people.

Cons

Pay rate, especially for part-timers who make of majority of the company, is extremely low. McDonald's offers more compensation that Radio One. Cost of living raises have not been approved in years, however the president received a 1.25 million bonus recently. Inadequate and outdated resources and technology. Outdated studio equipment and computers. General Managers with no financial acumen/ business knowledge. Stations not making revenue which causes them to become desperate and give away the product. Biased HR who have no problem over looking issues until it becomes a lawsuit.

Everything for Nothing

Pros

Upper management and even Cathy Hughes herself are very accessible. They make you feel welcome to reach out to them. They are visible around the stations without it feeling overbearing. Everyone knows everyone. They're very involved in the community. Great for the experience. Get to work with celebrities. Very involved in the African-American community and puts that as a priority.

Cons

NO GROWTH! On the rare occasion someone is climbing he ranks significantly it's often because of who they're friends with or who they are related to. No mentoring. Low pay. Plagued by the crabs in a barrel mentality. This is the type of company wants everything for nothing. They want your weekends, holidays, they want you to stay late, they want you to take on more responsibilities, they want you to be practically on-call everyday; they want as much as possible without even an extra .50 cents for your work. Not even health insurance.
