I did not feel safe working here

Pros

I loved working with my collegeus and clients. All the praise included in the other reviews about how good this place is for your professional development are absolutely true.

Cons

The review titled “Very good company with some serious management problems” sums up my experiences as well. I am also in the (still growing) group of people who decided to leave the company recently. The corporate language has grown strong in the last couple of weeks. Just one example is how the company is trying to push new contracts on the employees. The contracts are very unbalanced and left deliberately vague. Numerous tries to raise and voice those concerns with the CEO ended in the platitudes about how “we just need to trust each other.” This seemed irreconcilable to me with the contract excerpts about exorbitant financial penalties I would have to pay if I ever did anything that put the company in an unfavourable light. (Like publishing this review, I believe.) I can only advise serious caution when trying to enter a legal agreement with Sunscrapers.

Hi there, Thanks for your feedback, it's really appreciated. It's true that our contracts are evolving in time as they need to reflect local specifics, stay up to date with current regulations and meet the expectations of our clients, among which there is an increasing number of international enterprises (you can imagine the paperwork that goes along with it). Having said that, our values have not changed - trust, transparency and honest communication are still at the core of our culture and we would never "push" any changes or leave clauses "deliberately vague". Quite the contrary, we always make time to discuss any concerns or feedback around these matters as we want everyone to feel safe and be confident that we're a part of the same team. I'm sorry if your voice didn't reach me on time. I would have been happy to discuss your concerns in person. If, for some reason, we wouldn't find a common ground - so be it. I would just hope you'd have no doubts about our good faith. PS. Since you’ve published your review, we're taking additional efforts to communicate our openness to feedback and willingness to discuss *any* matters that our teammates find important, just in case somebody doesn't catch that in the first place. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and helping us improve. Lukasz

Pros

- Employees: people are professional and friendly; diversity (people come from very different backgrounds) makes it a fun place to cooperate and grow in. - Projects: varied, challenging and interesting; there are startup ones, as well as mature ones. - On-boarding process: the company is newcomer-friendly, on-boarding is well thought through and gentle. - Educational budget: 75% cost of conferences, courses, language lessons (etc.) is covered by the company (up to a certain limit per year); also, you get extra paid days off for conference attendance. - Weekly talks: almost every week there is a talk about software development, DevOps, management or another topic.

Cons

- Unpredictable and emotional CEO: you never know when he will be angry at something or someone; when he is angry he is unfriendly, antagonistic and he doesn't listen. - Atmosphere: due to CEOs actions moods are pretty bad and people are quitting - lately in a span of about three weeks four people (of twenty-something in total) quit because of something he said or done. - Conflict solving: the company has no ability to solve serious conflicts between management and employees.

Hi there, Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it. As a company that's been growing quite dynamically in the last few years we're constantly facing new challenges and thus mistakes sometimes do happen as we go, unfortunately. The reinforcement of company culture and communication around change are particularly difficult in a growing team and I'm aware that I may have handled and overseen it better at times. I'm sorry for letting you down and making you feel this way. PS. It's been a while since you've posted this message - just to let you know I've taken it very seriously and was working hard to learn from it and improve. As a result, I feel that - as a team - we're now stronger and better aligned than ever and feedback was one of the things that made it possible, thanks. Lukasz

Hi there! Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it. Regarding remote work: some of our employees work at our office and some work 100% remotely (at the moment that’s the greater part of our employees). The 4-days limit of remote work is the ‘starting level’ for our teammates from Warsaw, but if someone needs to work remotely more often it’s an open question for us, not a blocker. All we care about is transparent communication. Martyna
