Pros

Amazing Industry A Beautiful Office

Cons

About 5% of AEs hit their quota a month, and about 50% of the 5% are hitting it regularly, everyone else is completely struggling. They set outrageous goals, that will never hit. A lot of the times are targets as a team were more than the total of the quotas of the team combined. You will be forced to try to snake accounts away from your colleagues. AEs will literally mark in their calendars for dates that your accounts become fair game. Management has little to no training. Throughout my time there, I was constantly asking where I was going wrong, and had almost no guidance as they couldn’t figure it out either. Going to management with any problems or situations you find yourself never results in help. Management would simply roll their eyes and say “what do you want me to do”. At one point a VP level told me “are you not a morning person? Show up at 5am” When I was already showing up regularly at 8am. The only leads you will actually receive will mostly be children who signed up. When I was hired I was told it was 80% inbound, 20% outbound. It’s really 99% outbound. They hire ridiculous numbers of AEs without investing in any support around them. In their eyes each AE=x$ in rev. Once you don’t hit they just terminate most. Retroactively changed compensation plans to pay less.

Pros

Despite being laid off, I look back on my time at Vention fondly. The work was interesting: I was given impactful projects and responsibilities, AND the resources to carry them to completion. My colleagues at Vention were some of the brightest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I am truly proud of the work I completed there. I believe in what Vention is building and that they will be sustainably successful.

Cons

One week during October I was called into a meeting along with several peers; Sales volume was forecasted to remain low and we needed to reduce headcount which involved terminating some of my direct reports. This was the third mass layoff I was a part of during my time at Vention. The following week on Monday I was tasked with informing the people we were letting go. Afterwards I spent the rest of the afternoon talking to the remaining members of my team in an attempt boost morale. The following morning I was called into a surprise 15-minute meeting with HR and my boss during which I was informed I was also part of the layoffs. That's it. That's all. Vention had me fire members of my team only to fire me the next day. I will let you potential/current employee determine whether you are okay with working for a company that would do this to its employees. It's just one aspect that I feel is important and that you need to be aware of. If you are looking to join the sales team, it seems you will find 3 years of detailed reviews of what it's like to work there. Vention is a cool company, I loved my time there, I was a top performer, the colleagues I had were brilliant, and I wanted to spend many years there. I was let go in a cowardly and apathetic way. I felt completely betrayed. As a little bit of additional context; during my termination I was told twice that they had discussed alternate ways to let me go (i.e. have me be fired along with members of my team) but determined this was the best option. I guess they thought it would make me feel better to know that they considered treating me with fairness and respect but ultimately went another way.
