Short-sighted Management

Pros

I worked with some great colleagues and co-workers. The official Veriff backpack is nice. Work life balance was good.

Cons

The management are incredibly short-sighted with the strategy changing very widely in a short space of time. A strategy was laid out in June and by August same year a 180 degree turn had happened. There is a hire and fire mentality at this company based on the needs at the immediate time and no consideration at all to the impact of lay offs from a human perspective. I worked for the company for less than six months, as did many many other people. People were hired when Veriff knew they had revenue challenges yet the recruitment continued at no benefit to anybody. I know of people due to join that had handed in notice, who then had contracts rescinded before they joined. I, and many others trusted Veriff and turned down other opportunities to join this broken organisation.

Thank you for sharing your insights about your time with us. We're glad you had the chance to work with great colleagues and enjoyed aspects of your work-life balance. To address your concerns about management and strategy shifts, we have taken accountability regarding having scaled the team faster than we grew our revenue. We did everything possible to support and communicate with our employees during this period and learn from this experience. We still need to invest in recruitment for key specific roles that are aligned with our strategy to be able to reach our goals, and also in the case of backfills. We've taken a very sustainable and conservative approach to hiring since the beginning of the year. Lastly, pivoting in a fast-paced tech environment is sometimes essential to keep up with changing market dynamics, evolving technology, and shifting customer demands, ensuring that we remain relevant and adaptable in a dynamic industry. Thanks for sharing your valuable perspective with us as we work toward improvement.

Hires and fires in waves

Pros

The product competes well at it's core functionality, generally winning when tested against another provider Some of the people working at Veriff are fantastic Estonian business culture is refreshing, and the SummerWeek get together is stellar

Cons

In the span of 3 years they hired and fired in approx 4 waves, which has set a slight sense of unease across the business, and a stop/start approach to progress The IDV market seems to be innovating faster than the product can keep up with Commercials and performance were over promised to the board, so there's a general feeling of always running to keep up with expectation, rather than exceed Sold off most of the office spaces so getting teams together in-person outside of Estonia is tough

Pros

The environment at Veriff provides a great place to learn and grow, while creating and building things you can be proud of in your career. They're in a rapidly evolving vertical and the company continues to innovate and expand into new markets, keeping things interesting.

Cons

It's a scale up, so people should expect growing pains, mistakes to be made, and not everything to be figured out. If that's what you expect, go work for an established corporation. Layoffs hamper morale and reputation and it's unfortunate that the company blindly kept hiring when revenue growth was not tracking to plan. I hope they don't make that mistake again. Nonetheless, the company handled layoffs with empathy and treated people well on the way out -- good work. Too often looking for a new senior leader hire to "fix" things, rather than promoting from within.
