Pros

As shifts long, get more time as such, at home... I.e 14hrs night shifts, you can get 28hrs in 2 shifts which may take 3-4 shifts in day practice

Cons

Short staffed, overworked, underpaid for the conditions of work, huge amount of pressure, a lot of staff not experienced. Clinic old and dirty, falling apart

Hi there, we’re so sorry to hear about your experience at one of our clinics. We are always determined to improve if our standards have fallen short and would like to address your experiences directly – would you be willing to engage with us to do so? If so, please email into People Services with your details and we’ll ask the Area Resource Manager for the clinic to get in touch with you. The vet and nursing staffing challenges we are experiencing at a handful of our clinics at the current time are similar to most in the profession, but we’re working hard to get it right. The wellbeing of our people is our number one priority and we continue to do everything we can to recruit and retain the best staff, and to create a positive working environment for all of our clinical teams. We’d really like to hear from you directly, so we hope you get in touch.

Worst job I've ever had

Pros

Good for networking and making contacts due to the constant stream of different locum a passing through. I also got to see a wide range of interesting cases. I genuinely can't think of any other positive things to say.

Cons

I've worked as an RVN for 15 years. I was employed by vets now for 18 months and I can honestly say it was the worst 18 months of my career. The wages they pay are terrible considering you're working nights. I'm now paid considerably more working normal Monday to Friday days than I was paid by vets now doing nights and weekends. I did no CPD through vets now the whole time I was there and arranged and paid for all my own. They say the first year is directed CPD but they didn't do any with me. I received no EEC training from then despite them claiming all there staff are trained in ECC, that is just a blatant lie. While I was there they were so desperate for locum vets they'd take anyone, some of the vets I worked with were terrible. I wouldn't take my animals to vets now having seen the standard of care given by some of the vets I had to work with. The management are out of touch with the staff in the clinics. I felt that the company was far too financially motivated, I understand that it's a business and ultimately it's there to make money but I've seen whelping dogs euthanased because the owners couldn't afford a c.section. Vets are given average transactions value targets which encourage them the make a minimum amount of money per consultation. They claim on their adverts they offer a good work life balance but I disagree, I was constantly being hassled to work more shifts due to the lack of permanent staff. The fact that the company can't staff their clinics across the country speaks volumes.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I’m disappointed that you feel your experience working for Vets Now was such a negative one. I take on board your suggestion about pay; we’ve recently taken proactive steps to address this by evaluating our staff benefits package to make sure we have a competitive offering that is in line with the rest of the market. It’s true that staffing levels are an issue across the industry, and our recruitment team have been working really hard to reduce our hiring time and make sure we are fully staffed with the best quality talent. In all cases we seek to employ ECC trained staff in our clinics first. We also offer several routes in to ECC for vets and vet nurses through our popular Edge suite of programmes, with tailored training for graduates taking their first steps in to the field, or for those who are looking to further develop their skills. I’m surprised to hear you didn’t undertake any CPD while with us. We offer a great CPD allowance, in fact it is often one of the reasons clinical staff cite for being attracted to Vets Now, and our training team are always on hand to discuss how to access this and to help everyone release their potential and meet their career goals. Thank you once again for your feedback, it helps make Vets Now a better place to work and I wish you all the best with your future endeavours. Kind regards Kirsty

Pros

team in clinic are amazing and keep the clinic afloat

Cons

management find every reason to criticize staff, including listening in to phone calls and telling you off if the call didn't turn into a consult. There is not enough staff in clinic so animals are neglected and do not receive the care that clients pay for. Management want to run the clinic on the least amount of staff possible whether its at detriment to staff or animals.
