Still Not Sure VolunteerMatch Will Make It

Pros

Great mission, seems that many people know us, we seem to be very popular in the volunteer sector. Nice office, but hardly anyone goes there. Decent people and all are very nice.

Cons

Never really know the direction of the organization. The CEO is somewhat all over the place, and operates in a vacuum with only a few people. Nice guy, but does a terrible job of using the rest of his team. He either does not trust the other employees, or just doesn't want to spend the time to train or give feedback or want the others to succeed? Extremely bad management style, and most definitely one of the main reasons for the large number of people leaving over the recent years.

Great people w/ horrible leadership

Pros

Smart, kind and innovative people are drawn to work at VolunteerMatch because of the amazing mission. These are the people that keep the corporate and nonprofit partners happy.

Cons

The president is terrified of change and lacks any real leadership skills. In my time, I saw 5+ top performers leave because they realized their hard work and game changing ideas would never be taken into consideration. I know that the majority of employees who left complained about this but HR/Board never seemed to care or take any feedback into consideration. It's difficult to get a raise or promotion despite the hard work put in.

Pros

Get to bring your own personality and strengths to the job Work with very smart, dedicated, and accomplished professionals in a supportive environment Autonomy and the resources you need to succeed Make a difference while you make a living

Cons

It is a smaller organization, so a Climb-the-Ladder career path is more limited.
