Need to offer something to employees

Pros

the most interesting area to work in, IMO. The chance to work with companies who are transitioning the economy

Cons

Pay is well below market, career opportunities are very limited, and management is really bad. What is it that employees should feel they are getting out of working at Watershed? It sucks to work somewhere where so many people are interviewing elsewhere and openly talking about it. The recent 'pay raise' received 0 positive reaction and just pissed people off further. PLEASE make some investment in your employees.

Pros

Extremely fast-paced environment that offers constant challenges and opportunities to learn. High performers can find meaningful opportunities for growth and increased responsibility. The team is composed of exceptionally smart, driven individuals, which creates a stimulating and high-achieving work culture. The company’s mission around sustainability is inspiring and provides a strong sense of purpose for many employees.

Cons

Leadership decisions often feel very reactive and seem to lack clear long-term strategy. While agility should be valued, the constant shifts in direction can create instability and make it difficult for teams to pursue sustainable, long-term goals. The company frequently pivots based on evolving visions from the top, requiring employees to be highly adaptable at the expense of focus and continuity. This environment can hinder deep, meaningful progress and lower team morale over time—ultimately leading to frustration and burnout. Much of the leadership team, including the founders, appear relatively inexperienced, which sometimes shows in the decision-making process. Even seasoned senior hires seem to follow the founders' lead rather than stick with independent strategic perspectives. The hiring approach clearly places significant weight on educational pedigree and perceived IQ. While this results in a high-achieving team, it also narrows the range of perspectives and backgrounds represented, constraining internal diversity, creativity, and inclusivity.
